I agree, i'm new to this form of art but to me it would be better if the figure in the picture on the wall was stood back a bit more.
You could also had a cat or dog in the image to give it that hmm this may sound wrong, homely/life like feeling about it.
Anyway from a beginners few its looks good but those few things i mentioned. Sorry i edited this because i thought you had shadows in the image when in fact they ar rugs, well i hope they are ;)

Yeah, I thought it was a scary shadow on the floor at first as well. Also, I feel the picture on the wall doesn't fit with the period - portraits wouldn't be that informal, and the placing of the 'painted' figure within the composition isn't good - top of head too close to frame. And maybe arrange the chairs in the same way as in the picture, so the viewer will make the connection? I (duh!) didn't realise that it was the same room etc. in the painted picture, until I looked at it critically. Ball feet on the globe - would you consider booleaning them so they look like china wheels rather than balls? What a bunch of negative stuff! Very nice image, and very atmospheric :o)
I totaly agree. Something is wrong with the painting on the wall. I think it would be better if I made a "Portrait" frame instead of a "landscape". As for the Style of the painting, I think it would be OK. Artists did make "informal" portraits, even much earlier than the possible time period of this picture. Hmm.. to me it looks too "flat". What if I tilted it slightly off from the wall, as if it was hanging on a hook? And yes. those wheels. lol Easy way out. Hmm.. two possible solutions. Modelling new wheels, or move the globe so that they don't show :) The furniture IS in fact placed as they were in the painting. There is a chair behind the man. There is an additional chair, that the man is resting his hands on. Rugs. Yes. The texture isn't "right". I have some others. And the other rug, is Trekkiegirl's bear rug, - that seems outta place and could be replaced for a different one?
britt don't model new wheels, just take them ones off and let the globe stand on wodden legs, those you have with the wheels on would look fine imo. Britt just had my girlfriend looking at the pick. Her opinion is, the picture on the wall looks like its a mirrored reflection, needs the brightness tonning down on it, the woman in it needs to stood back away from the front of it a bit, the flames in the fire don't look right(look fake), wheels on the globe need to be removed and let it stand on those legs it has, they suit the time period for that image. They are only her opinions on what she thinks is wrong and could be fixed in it.
This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

Thank you, John. I'm giving your fire a shot. One of my problems is that it will now take 12 hrs to get the image rendered. lol But I'll get backatcha with the results. LunarTick: I found the fire mat you mentioned, but must say that I like Clay's better. :) So I'm sticking with that, with the alterations John has mentioned. I did remove the wheels! lol Thanks!
