What is it and how is it done? Ive been told this is a way to make cables and wires and such that can bend which ive been trying to do for a while now.

The above image was done with multireplication of cubes... This image is from my tutorial on a simple introduction to multi-replication in the tutorials section right now... look for the cog thumbnail... good luck

A bendable wire or cable using multi-replicatoin start with creating a path...there are several available to choose from in the create menu. Next you create a metaball and attach it to the path. Multi-replicating the metaball will cause it to follow the path giving you what appears top be a bent cable, rope or wire. That is the gist of it...I am sure you can find a more in depth explanation by searching the forum.

Multi-replication is a tool that can duplicate an object x times in XYZ dimensions with each copy while rotating it on XYZ axis with each copy. The image was made by multi-reping Just select, edit, multi-replicate, and you're ready to go.

To some, the factor will eventually be recognizeable. Did I spell that right?

One thing to beware of when multi-replicating is to be sure to set the X Y and Z scales to 100%, unless you want the replicates to change size. If you've recently scaled or moved the object, make sure to reset 'scale' boxes to 100% (other boxes to zero) before inputting your own instructions.

Lots of discussion and examples in recent thread, if you scroll down the attached link.

A quicker way to make cables is to download the smartpipe freebie though......

Seems all MadMax's freebies (like SmartPipe) in Free Stuff are 404. The link I have for MM's D/L's is here: http://www.3dfightclub.com/~madmax/uploads/files/

Love that texture on the smartpipe AS. :)

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 29 September 2004 at 3:01 AM

The mat on the smaprtpipe there is just a very slightly tweaked version of the hose.mat from the pack of mats I made up for our July 2003 Challenge. You can find that pack here;
Free Mats

You can get the tweaked version from the render above here;
Download

Here's some renders of the different way the way the hose mat can look if you just wrap it differently;

Thanks AS!!!Now to find the link on how to texture the smartpipe, I know the thread is in here somewhere.....

pogmahone ( ) posted Wed, 29 September 2004 at 11:18 AM

yeah, I just asked that question recently. When you've arranged the pipe the way you want, click on the dropdown menu at the bottom, and select the family of the pipe only. then you get the option to add material.
