Hi guys, I'm desperate so I have to ask for you help if you can spare the time to click on the link below and just let me know if it does or does not work for you! You don't even have to wait for the page to load..just let me know if it works or not for you and what browser you use. http://www.renapd.com My server has moved lately, ever since seems that the majority has no problems accessing my site while a few get a message this page can't be found! This affects even the zip or image links I'm posting to friends or my store previews - therefore I MUST figure out what's causing the problem. Is it a setting? A specific browser? Whatever... So if you can spare a couple of minutes to help me - you have no idea how much it would be appreciated! Thank in advance for any feedback and I just hope it helps to solve this mystery I've never encountered before.. :( Rena PS: My server provider has also been notified by phone earlier and is looking into this problem too right now - but since all works fine from Greece it's hard to pinpoint the problem any other way than this mini survey! :(

Working just fine with Mozilla Firefox from over here in Denmark... :-)

softriver ( ) posted Thu, 07 October 2004 at 5:08 AM

Works fine in Mozilla Firefox. ISP is Verizon, located in North America. Is it a simple 404 error that users are getting, or is it a connection refused or what? Could have to do with an improper firewall setting on the user's end. ;)

It's working for me now, but is pretty slow. I'm using IE6.

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

It's working for me too (but I'm based in Greece, patrida, so that doesn't count I guess). When did you make the server switch? I think that it takes approx. 48-72 hrs for all DNS servers to be updated, so it could be that the users having problems are 'looking' for your site at the wrong server (previous host). If that is the problem, it will be solved by itself, as soon as DNS servers are updated. Jon

softriver ( ) posted Thu, 07 October 2004 at 5:23 AM

If you need a relay or a redirect, I can set up a separate sub-domain temporarily until you get things fixed up. I can set up temporary shell access on our servers here at Studio Verite', or I can use one of our undeveloped domains. Let me know with an IM if this will help and we can discuss what would need to be done. Bandwidth and storage are no issue, and I can set up security to prevent you from accessing our company shells. ;)

Thanks for your response guys.. :) JONFE..the DNS change has been done and the server move was completed more than 15 days ago so this is definately not the issue. SOFTRIVER..I thought of that too, especially as Windows XP service pak 2 recommends a Firewall set. I have mine disabled but I enabled it to check out the issue and still I could see the images and access the site fine..so that possibility was eliminated as well. Thank you soo much for your graceful offer to help me out but it's not a bandwidth or space issue that I'm focused on right now - this problem NEEDS to be solved - the site is not free and I pay a respective amount of money per year so I can have zips and images uploaded that I need to share..if it doesn't work then it's a waste of money, so one way or another I must reach the root of the problem! :( Thank you all so much for sharing your free time to help me out - eventually we'll reach someone who shares the problem with laetia and linwhite and maybe his own settings will enlighten me as to what goes on! Rena

Oops.. we have THREE people here who CAN"T open the site. Garee, MysticBlueRaven and pdxjims ... could you kindly tell us if you are using any Firewall other than the one of WindowsXP SP2 and could you kindly empty your browser cache and try again to tell us what happens? I know I ask too much but I hope to make this work for you too! :) Rena

I didn't see a link in your original post, just the address in plain text. But I clicked on it anyway to make sure. Nothing.

So I copied the text address and pasted in a new I.E. window and it worked immediately. No problems.

I.E. 6, Ohio.
Very nice site, BTW. Fast, too.

One more funny thing.. it worked for laetia now - while it didn't last night, and she's changed none of her settings! Could I be so lucky as my prayers to have been heard and the server staff took my complaint seriously or managed to find the glitch? Fingers crossed! Rena

I checked out your fine site, and ran into a problem. This may not be related to the original problem you mentioned. If you're on the Freebies page, and click on the link to the Front Page, you get a "404 Error, not found." It's looking for a page with the word XMas in the name.

Irish ( ) posted Thu, 07 October 2004 at 11:13 AM

Rena, I am getting a Page Not Found...using XP, no service pack2, Norton Security, IE6. Have no problems anywhere else with this configuration. :)

"The page cannot be displayed" Win XP IE 6, Toronto, Canada I tried getting there after turning off all firewall & antivirus, made no difference.

Works for me in Toronto,Canada. Good luck. Your products Rock!

duanemoody ( ) posted Thu, 07 October 2004 at 11:24 AM

Those that can't get through to Rena's page, please be so kind as to mention your type of Internet service (cable/DSL/dialup) and provider (local ISP/AOL/Earthlink). It's probably as important as browser. Some dialup services offer "accelerated" access which works by the dialup company actually locally caching the most popular web sites on their own servers and delivering you the cache (like a dumbed down version of akamai). Buuut, go somewhere less popular and it has to retrieve it the regular way. I'm not a net god, but this sounds fishy.

Been getting a "Cannot find server" message for several days.

WinXP, IE6, cable connection, Cablelynx. Firewall and browser cache seem to have no effect.

Perhaps if you tried poking it with a stick?
