THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: OT: New job, loads of pics, and some other stuff.

'yello those of you who have wished me good luck in my job hunt can officially tear down the little drac shrines in their living rooms, i have been fortunate enough to find one. can't really give many details since it's all pretty sketchy, but it would seem i might have something to do with my country's strategy towards the us and other democratic-type places (yeah, you can take pot-shots at how fast romania's gonna invade the us). i say democratic because i could write a whole novel on how you can get a job down here (and it'll be one of horror). all the same, i'm meeting some head uglies today to iron out the final details. aside from that, i have this story in my head that's been haunting me for the past while, together with a render or two (gonna enter the speed challenge when i get back to korea). so barring the uglies telling me that they need me ASAP (which i sincerely hope they won't), i'll have time for a scifi short story and a couple of godly renders. as well, i took a trip down to the romanian country-side, and i have to say that i fell back in love with this land. i have about 100 pics i'm going to put up the moment i'm off the plane in korea. what else... thank you very much for your crossed fingers and the good karma you sent my way. it's a pretty day today, just as i like them, with biting winds and cold rain. reminds me of an old west wing episode with a dire straits song :) drac

Congratulations Drac. Glad you're enjoying the countryside. As to your job - always bear in mind that Romania is a European country :^P And....... politely turn down any offer of a posting to the Middle East ROTFL

I guess Congrats, although I'm not sure but didn't you want "not" to get a job there? I'm confused don't mind me. I hope that your job can evolve into one where you get to travel, at least to democratic places smile. Looking forward to seeing your pics as well. Ang

Romania's gonna invade the U.S. ? Well, good,........we could use a change in leadership models. Does Romania have Cable and DSL ? Congratulations on the job, whatever it might entail. Actually the sketchy job details are good,....see if you can keep it that way,.....then nobdy will be sure exactly what it is you really do and they can never be sure if they can do without you or not. I'm going to leave my drac shrine up anyway,....my cat really likes it.

yay cats! but yeah. thank you all for your kind wishes. i got back from the thing today and the chances (again, for what exactly is unknown) are around 95%. This means coming back to Romania in a month or so. So i'm gonna be leeching all i can while in Korea :) drac

drawbridgep ( ) posted Mon, 11 October 2004 at 3:23 PM

Well done Drac. I'm sure they picked the best man for the job. My turn next. Going for fingerprinting and biometric interview tomorrow in order to get a work authorization. So now you've finished with the luck, send it my way.

Congratulations Drac! I hope this big step leads to the ideal career-path for you. :-)

@drawbridgep, "biometric interview" eh? Be sure to turn your head and cough. And whatever you do, don't let them put that "smart-chip" under your epidermis(just joking)or in your ear lobe.

Slakker ( ) posted Mon, 11 October 2004 at 4:07 PM

Good luck with that, Phil! (I really hope your name is Phil...i have such a dreadful time remembering names over screen-names...) Congrats, Drac! Now, if you ever get to meet the president (Whoever it may be after Nov. 2nd) of our fine nation, you let him know EXACTLY what the rest of the world thinks of his foreign policy. (I think that erm..."CHOCOLATE" render you did a while back would be perfect.)

Thanks, like I wasn't worried enough before hand. US Immigration seems so worried at the moment about aliens, that nothing they did would surprise me. (And yeah, it's Phil)

/me packs some luck and sends it via DHL to phil. i've had a 10 year visitor's visa to the US but I've hardly used it. shrug /me sends some of that too

danamo ( ) posted Mon, 11 October 2004 at 5:42 PM

Phil, I repeat...I was joking, not very well, but I was joking. Biometric analysis is a non-invasive procedure. No disrobing required. No tracking chips. They might measure your hand, scan your retina, or your facial geometry. That's about it. Nothing more uncomfortable than an eye-exam. You don't even have to use any drops or wear those funny glasses on the way home. Apologetic Dan

drawbridgep ( ) posted Mon, 11 October 2004 at 5:45 PM

Yeah, I know. Believe me, I've been going through this imigration process for a year and know exactly what's involved, so I was joking too, in my dry British way. Fingerprints and a few questions. No biggie. I'll report back tomorrow.

Phil: Don't listend to Dan! He works for the CIA. What it is....if you're too big in the reproduction department, they won't let you stay. You know how the Yanks like things BIG? Well imagine if a Brit was caught with something bigger than they got.....mmm? Where a wig with some tinfoil underneath and you'll be quite safe.....er....I think......;-)

danamo ( ) posted Mon, 11 October 2004 at 6:55 PM

Darn you Bryster, now you've blown my cover!! You're right, of course, about the size statement. It's a little-known fact that reknowned musician Vladimir Horowitz was almost barred from emmigrating to the U.S. for this reason. It was obviously a case of pianist-envy.

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 11 October 2004 at 8:32 PM

...silently blowing on danamo's cover..... blink....blink.... Uhm.... that was a signal to MI6 blink g NICE VIEW!

I'm back from the biometrics stuff. In and out in 10 minutes. So now I have to wait another 30 to 90 days for another interview and then maybe the US government will realise that I'm no threat.

We use hand and finger geometry for biometric confirmation, no unzipping necessary! We have three cats; the first is called Monster 'cuz he's the meanest, the second is called Love 'cuz she's the sweetest and the last is called Liberace, 'cuz he's the pianist... Sorry, old Benny Hill joke @drawbridge!
