Subject: Animation palette - question about keyframe editing

Is it possible to take a series of keyframes in the motion curve editor(as illustrated in the image) and move them all at once to a different height (parameter range), while still maintaining their current fluctuations relative to each other?

I tried selecting all of them, and moving them down to the range I want them, but it doesn't seem to work without evening out all the keyframe data to a straight spline frequency, or just moving one keyframe at a time.


Tools :  3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender v2.74

System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB GPU.

It is possible by selecting all of them and dragging them down. I'm not at my PC just now but I have done this in the past. I can't remember right now but i think it's where you grab them with the mouse that keeps the selection to allow multiple dragging.

Easy to do, Maxx; Place the cursor arrow in the graph editor at the beginning of the area you want to select. Hold down the shift key; the arrow should turn into and 'I' beam type cursor. When it does, drag it in the direction you want, holding the shift down. The graph field should turn black, with the grid line in white. This area is the selected area that will be affected. Now release the mouse button first, -then- the shift key (the keyboard is acting as a toggle, so always release the mouse button first). If the icon is anywhere within the black area, it should have changed into two horizontal double-ended arrows. If you held down the left mouse button, you would drag the selected feild forward or backward along the timeline. To move it vertically, leave the cursor in the selected field, and press and hold the control key. The cursor should turn into parallel double ended vertical arrows. Hold the ctrl and left mouse button, and you can drag the selected field up and down. If you are selecting a very large field that involves scrolling the graph, then you will sometimes find that the starting location of the selected field gets shifted a few frames. You don't have to try an re-select the area; all you need to do is place the cursor back into the selection field near where the point you want to adjust is, press and hold the shift again. This retoggles the selection cursor, and you just drag and adjust the end you want.

Thanks, DaleB!! I wasn't holding the CTRL key down - that was my problem. Duh! ;-) Works like a champ now. Thanks also, NeilP, for your response as well. Much appreciated.

Heh! ;D Thank PhilC; I learned it from him....and 'useful' doesn't even begin to cover it. I was =trying= to adjust some of those Santa Monica dance studio BVH files...you know, the ones where the hip's Y value was around +10.00 or so? You don't want to know how long I spent on one file, adjusting the feet to the floor in every bloody frame... Then a kind soul pointed me at Phil's site, and the nice little dopesheet tutorial there.... I know the 'one keyframe at a time crawl' is something of a ritual of passage for an animator, but geeeez.....! It makes the blood sacrifice you have to make to create the magic smoke in the computer easy....
