Subject: Have 3 problems & need some help - TIA

Using Vue 5 1. While I'm working in the main view, every time I move my mouse over the screen, the wireframe blinks, is this normal, I find it irratating :(. 2. When I'm using a procedural terrain, I can apply a filter OR function, but not both. If I click & try to add 1 or another nothing happens, if try this several times...Vue crashes :( 3. When Vue crashes it comes back with a screen asking me some crap about compatabililty mode, I say yes & of course I have to go back & re-do all my settings. This also happens if it hangs & have to do CTRL + ALT + DEL I'm at the point of head banging :(. Using WINXP Pro 2gRam 99G HD space available. TIA

Problem 1 - yes, it happens to me, so I guess it is 'normal'! Problem 2 - I've had the same thing as well. Problem 3 - I always say no, as I figure that, as it was working up to the crash, compatability isn't really the issue, plus I don't want to have to start turning things back on. I just save more often. Not much help, but hey! you're not alone.!! TIA - you're welcome!

Thanks...this is driving me nuts!!! I thought I was done converting everything but nooooooooooooooooo...there is some file type lurking in my hundreds of bitmaps that Vue doesn't like...so now I have to figure out what file type it is >:(.

I don't see blinking wireframes. Maybe you can adjust some settings for your display. In Vue 5 goto 'File->Options->Display Options', you will also find a 'Test' button here to check if your hardware is compatible with Vue. I think the behaviour of the main window differs a little bit from the other windows. Sometimes I'm not able to move or resize an object but sometimes it works. After a crash Vue forgets a lot of things no matter if I switch to compatibility mode or not. Norbert

Could it be the graphics card? Which one do you have, Debby?

#1 do you have a Wacom tablet? I have a lot of issues with the drivers. In all 3D packages. So for Vue, Poser, Cinema etc i use the normal mouse, for the rest the graphic tablet. It could be that V5 interpretates your mouse movement as a drag and drop issue. You can give an object a material by simply dropping the material icon onto the model in the scene. #2 procedural terrains are a little tricky. I will test that the next days. #3 I always answer with "no" because of the reset it does to the preferences. A simple trick. Backup the folder "environment". In there there are files with the extention .env. They contain the informations about your settings. Restore them and all your settings are back. I will tell you early next week which one does what. In 4 it was easier because there it was all one file, Vue.env. In V5 it has changed to several files. For the several issues.

One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.

Q 1. While I'm working in the main view, every time I move my mouse over the screen, the wireframe blinks, is this normal, I find it irratating :(. A This does not happen to me. No blinking, everything's ok Q 2. When I'm using a procedural terrain, I can apply a filter OR function, but not both. If I click & try to add 1 or another nothing happens, if try this several times...Vue crashes :( A I can not test this because both filter and functions are disabled in the procedural terrain editor. And I don't think I have a different Vue 5 than the others, so I'm wondering if you're confusing it with the normal terrain editor Q 3. When Vue crashes it comes back with a screen asking me some crap about compatabililty mode, I say yes & of course I have to go back & re-do all my settings. The only one time it happened, I said "no" and all my settings were left untouched.

After my earlier reply, I've had another look. Problem #1 - Is the blinking the wireframe being redrawn? with mine, the blinking appears to be the view resetting slightly, and now only appears when a view window is selected. The original blinking seems to have gone - this is after reducing the openGL draw settings from maximum, and turning done the number of openGL lights. Problem#2 - I assumed that you were talking about the procedural terrain editor window, where you can select an altitude production function or a filter - two small windows top right hand side. That's where it will let you select the function or filter, but seems to only apply the first one selected and ignores any others.

Orio - they are not buttons. It's the two windows indicated above.

Sorry for not getting back...had to go to bed LOL. My Graphics card is compatible, so I know thats not the problem. I actually "read" the manual last night and NO you cannot use altitude production & filter together. Will check the redraw thing Nick...and Nick that is what I was talking about(the above pic). Thanks!
