Subject: Why is C4 so much more expensive in Europe?

pertm ( ) posted Fri, 15 October 2004 at 8:06 AM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 9:59 PM

I have been looking to buy C3 and get the free upgrade for C4. But what I can not understand is why it sells for the more euros than US dollars. I'm not thinking about VAT that has to be added in Europe, but the euro is worth more than the dollar too. It's $379 or 429 € for the same thing. Of course it's not possible to buy from the US store. Does anybody have any idea why it's this way?

The euro is around $ 1.20 - $ 1.25 the laste months. So $379 should translate to 315 to 303,20. That is a huge difference indeed. I would be very interested to know. But I think taxes (import taxes on software), may a back office that is more expensive and transport costs (including planes to get over the Big Puddle) that are higher could add to the price. In The Netherlands, where I live, a Levi's 501 is 150.00 I bought some in New York for $ 45.00. So a price difference between articles that are produced in the US and sold in Europe is not unique...

no matter what you buy(software or cloth)it always costs more in europe.for example:photoshop costs more than 1000,- in europe,in the us its 600 or 700 dollars.lightwave 3d 8 costs 1595 us dollar and in europe 1595 .this is a bit to much for only taxes or whatever.btw,a levi's costs 100 where i live.i was a bit angry about the price but i ordered the carrara pro upgrade anyway. im also interested why everything is more expensive in europe then anywhere else.

It is simply because it is such a privilege living in Europe we have to pay for it. :-)

I live in Norway and we are not a member of EU. Still we are teachers pet with France and Germany's EU, because of applying EU laws without hesetation through our EEC membership. Talk about stupids, duh!

Half of us want to abandon sovereignty to the new EU, half of us don't.

I, personally, would like to be a new state under the USA instead.

Why not? I would get cheaper Carrara!

:-)

Yeah I know. I live in Norway too. When ordering most things from outside Norway we have to add VAT. Some shops In Europe make us pay VAT from their country, and then we have to pay Norwegian VAT on top of that. Speak about being robbed. New state in the USA, that's a new thing I have not heard before. I know one way to avoid VAT in Norway is if I download it. This I believe is because we here are outside the EU. Another way to get it cheaper is a company I know that gives you a "postbox" in the USA and from there can send it from there. Snekkis if you are interested you should see www.magnum.no. They only ship to Norway and I believe Sweden. But I stil wonder way Eovia takes so much more for Carrara in Europe. I don't think there is import taxes, but there could be.
