Do you have P4 or P5? (sorry..just always the first question to come up as it can help with replies) =) I'm going to assume you have everything put in your runtime folder inside the poser directory... If you're talking about getting stuff going in Poser, you need to go into whatever library (figure, props, etc.) Select the figure you want and then either double click on the item or the single checkmark at the bottom and it will load. If you are adding clothing and props with your figure already there, select them in the library menu, and down at the bottom there should be a double checkmark...click on that and it will load...it must be the "add new figure" one otherwise it will replace what you have already loaded. Hope that helps a little... =)

I have P4, for now :-) thank you for your response but I guess I didn't write the question clearly enough, its hard to describe this stuff! I mean, I downloaded zipped file called Sarge, it is supposed to be a figure I can use that doesn't come installed in the program originaly... I have the zipped file in my desktop, I unzip it, then some files appear in the WinZip window.... like sarge_boot.obj, sarge_hair.obj, Sarge.rsr, sarge_boot_2.jpg, sarge_hair.jpg... i tried dragging and droping every file in the poser 4 window, but nothing happend. How can I install this figure in the poser program for use? Thank you :-)

If they come zipped, simply extract the files to the poser directory. Ex-c:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 5 Make sure that you have 'use file names for folders' checked, and everything will copy itself to the proper place. PS, be sure that the files are marked properly, hold your pointer over the zip file until the contents show. If they begin with 'Runtime...' then they are marked proper. Hope this helps.

Installing and using stuff doesn't differ a whole lot...just slight differences on file organization (but then I've only had P5 for a couple weeks now) Just hope the instructions I posted up there made sense... =)

my apologies, did you mean installing the items, or using the items after installing. (I should have asked first.)

oh NO :-( don't apoligize, thank you for your help I DID IT!!! but now I have a new problem, I instaled the figures in the program, but I still can't use'em... when I try to use them, a small window appears that says: Caught C exception: exception acess_violationtrapped at 1b:61eff9 and also: Cannot open resource file RuntimeGeometriesDazPeopleb1MilGirlPT.obj what does this mean?

kayjay97 ( ) posted Mon, 18 October 2004 at 12:13 AM

Not sure about the first one but the second one means that to use the files you are trying to use you have to have the Mill Girls from DAZ.

An access violation is the attempt by a computer process to access a memory area that it does not own or have permission to access. With modern operating systems, each process is given one or more segments of system memory where it can store and retrieve information. Each process can request more or less memory as needed, and the request will be acknowlegded by the operating system with the address of the granted memory section. Typically, the process that requested the memory is the only one allowed to read or write it. An access violation occurs when a process attemps to access a portion of memory assigned to another application, or an unused memory area, without having permission to do so. It is typically the result of a computer bug , for example a wrong pointer In the popular C programming language. the most frequent cause for access violations is the use of a pointer that has been set to the NULL value, that is, zero. This addressing is always reserved by the operating system, and it is handled as a sure symptom of a serious programming error. Give your pc a good debugging and see if it clears up. If not, there might be an underlying problem with the poser install.

You don't need a complicated explanation of the Exception error. You need to be sure you have the latest patch for Poser 4. Click on the link I provided, then choose the proper options for your Poser version, language, etc.

Many of the free and commercial items you download are add-ons for other things--skin textures, clothing textures, faces etc. made specifically for different items. In the example mentioned, you need to buy the Millineum Girls package from Daz3D as Realmling says. A lot of the newer items you find in Freestuff here are for other commercial figures, so you'll see names like Mike 3 (M3), Victoria 3 or Victoria 2 (V3/V2), etc. Those are also availavbe from Daz. If you go back into the older freestuff you should find many things that work with the original female figure included with Poser 4, the P4 Nude Woman aka Posette and some for the other included figures and clothing. You shouldn't need to purchase anything else to use those. On the zip files, most of them do have the directories/folders for the files already setup and you can just unzip them to tous Poser 4 folder. Sometimes that's not the case and you may have to look at the included readme file and create the folders yourself.

Mil Girls is $29.95. You should check the requirements on the package before downloading. Many items reqire that you have one of the Daz Figures (Michael, Victoria, David, Stephanie, Milleninum Kids, etc) With Poser 4, you do have the option to use pre-installed figures. Look for anything that is P4 woman, P4 man, Posette or Dork. Anything for Don or Judy requires Poser 5.

You need to do some studying up. There are tutorials here and elsewhere. First, however, all your files must be in the proper directories. 5% of all files go to three major directories: Geometries, Libraries, and Textures. Most downloads are already set up in the proper fashion for direct load into the appropriate directory. Geometry files MUST be in the exact subdirectory specified or Poser won't work. Library files MUST be loaded in the appropriate directory by type of file extension ... look at the file extensions in the libraries you have already. HR2 files are hair, CR@ files are characters, PP2 files are props, etc. Texture files work best in the directory the the vendor put them in. There are a few that the file references aren't correct which is why many of us use the free utility CORRECTREFERENCE to fix. With a small library Poser is likely to find the texture files eventually. Link here is to a tutorial to give you an overall view of how it all works
