Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

Doc, I'm still mystified. I made this little hexagon thing in Amapi, with three groups. Made corresponding bones, and then renamed the bones to the group names. At the first point where a figure could be made, I made a figure. It seems to contain the parts, but it still also holds the figure1_SETUP thing, which doesn't seem like it should be there (????) and the body parts don't bend or move. Can you diagnose anything from this gross pathology, or do you need more of the patient's history?

Thanks for the clarification. If the groups must be made in Poser (by individual selection in the grouping tool) then the Setup room just isn't worth the trouble for my purposes. The grouping tool is too fussy; too easy to make unrecoverable misclicks. So I'll stick with the old method of importing the parts as separate objects, building the hierarchy in Poser, and creating the fig from the hier, without ever touching the Setup room. This method works reliably, and lets me do most of the "microscopic" stuff in Amapi, where it's easier to handle. I was just sort of hoping that the Setup room could make things faster instead of slower! ... sigh ....

Hi ockham,

Did you check the "List of Groups"?

If the "List" contains the correct groups, i.e, the ones you want, then all you need to do in the Setup Room is:

(using the Grouping Tool)

  1. Make your bones
  2. Select a bone (from the "List" of groups)
  3. Use the "Add Group" (button) <--- select the group you want for that bone

When you are done, you can delete all groups that are not required.

Poser will automatically delete the NO_BONE group if it is empty, i.e., all polygons in the figure have been grouped to a bone.

Would this work? ;=?

Just a thought. ;=]

Thanks, Doc! I'm cured! It was "include group", not "add group", but that was the key. Here's the proof......

I'm not 100% sure it applies to every situation, but my experience is that the NO_BONE group has to be deleted from the list manually, even when it's empty. Poser 5, SR 4...

OOPS !!! ;=[ Sorry Antonia ..... you're right ..... Doc's wrong. ;=[ (sniff) re:"Poser will automatically delete the NO_BONE group if it is empty, i.e., all polygons in the figure have been grouped to a bone." <----- WRONG! The NO_BONE group will not appear in the Pose Room but it may still exist in the Setup Room and must be deleted manually (if desired). If the NO_BONE group has been deleted and a subsequent operation causes a polygon(s) to not belong to a "bone" (group), Poser will recreate the NO_BONE group auto-magically. ;=] The NO_BONE group exists to "catch" any polygons that may have been removed from a previously "boned" group. cheers, (anyway) dr geep ;=]

Just for the sake of thread-completeness, here's the PPP grouping panel. It has a couple buttons that P4.0 doesn't, but the names are more like P4. And again, thanks for the prescription. There's no way in hell I could have bought that over-the-counter from the CL/PDF superstore chain.
