Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 26 2:05 pm)
You need your background picture to be the same shape (ratio) as the document window. For example, if your render window is 1000x1000, you need your picture to also be 1000x1000 for best results - or it could be 2000x2000 (and Poser will shrink it) or 500x500 (and Poser will enlarge it). But it must be the same shape. If your render window is 800x600 then your background picture needs to be 800x600 or 1024x768 or 640x480... Also if you are rendering to a new window, you must make sure that your render window is the same shape as your document window, otherwise you will not get an accurate preview. Make sure "Constrain aspect ratio" is selected in the render options.

If you have white space at the sides of the picture, then your ratios are wrong. What size is your background picture that you import? What size is your document/render window?

Your document window is 781x1069? What size screen do you have? When you import the picture, you say you get the message "the background width/height ratio is different than the current window" and you press Yes to change the picture. If your document window is the same shape, then this shouldn't happen. Go to Window>Document Window Size to check the current size. (My screen is set at 1280x1024 - Poser won't let me enter your screen size as my document window. I'm wondering if you have a high screen res, if the bottom of the document window is off your screen?)

you are importing a background picture using the File-Import Background feature and then rendering in firefly. This is wrong. (unless you use the P4 renderer). The background will ALways be square and tile. You need to go into the material room, select the background material, and apply your picture as a shader there.
thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)
If you use high camera focal settings it'll pixelate the background prop texture. I feel ya Dukun. Firefly doesn't accept backgrounds like P4 renderer does. I think Ynsaen has the answer though. I'll probably get slapped for this dumb question but... Ynsaen, how to you make the background a 'shader'? This Firefly background thing has been a headache for me too.
