I purchased this model from a renderosity merchant today. I was able to import the model into Bryce just fine but when I apply a texture it doesn't show up on the model. I have tried all kinds of textures, phot as well as procedural. Nothing. I applied textures to other models just to see if it was a software issue but it's not. I tried in Cinema 4d as well. The textures just don't show up as nothing but a flat gray color. You'll notice in the screenshot I applied the texture to a sphere and it works just fine. Look at the house model and you will notice the same texture on the exterior wall as a flat gray color. I tried emailing the merchant but have had no luck as of yet. Any suggestions?

Did you try unifying normals in Cinema?

hmmm... a screenshot of the material lab would help. have you tried mapping the texture as world cubic instead of parametric? drac ps: sounds like a bad texture mapping problem from the guy.

That was it drac...you da man!!! It's definitely a mapping problem. Thanks a million.

Claymor ( ) posted Sat, 20 November 2004 at 1:29 PM

For imported models I almost always start with object cubic mapping...parametric typically falls over.

hythshade, just as a tip, if that was the case, the model wasn't probably intended for Bryce. Even so, it's common practice for users who sell their work to map their works properly. from the looks of that thing, it's done in 5 minutes flat with little care for the end user in mind. ask around for freebies first before wasting your money on something that's not even properly offered. drac (i would have done that house for you for free)

Yeah, I do the same thing as Claymor as far as imported models such as the stuff I make in Wings. I almost always start with object cubic as parametric only seems to work if the model is UV mapped. World Cubic will work too, as Drac suggests, but if you animate the model the texture will "crawl".

If there is the mapping problem I usually go to UV mapper and it fixes it in no time...:)

Thanks drac, actually the models were meant to be used as just a base to build upon. Kind of like primitives in a way. They cost very little actually, and I'm not that upset about it. I was able to get them fixed up in uvmapper after all. Thanks for everyones help though. It was greatly appreciated. Michael

just got up and recieved my IM from hytheshade, heres the solution quite simple, just set the way the texture is wrapped to the objexect, hope this helps, richard.

in reply to drac, the model was one I created and sold without textures, (in a pack for only $6) as a 3ds object, all that was required was to apply your own texture and make any mods to the mapping as required.
