Subject: Looking for some mapping assistance

I'm trying to improve my UV mapping skills and I've noticed people throwing around terms like "spreading facets" and "stitching UVs together", etc. Aside from the camel tutorial on the UV Mapper website (I must be dense, because I found it hard to understand) are there any other tutorials out there that explain these procedures? I've been making some of my own Poser clothes in Wings and when it comes to mapping them so that I can texture them, I seem to run into problems with sides stretching, etc. I'm sure I could remedy a lot of it with spreading facets, but I just don't grasp how to do it. If anyone could hold my hand through it, I would be eternally greatful ;-) Thanks!

When you map something with planar mapping, for instance, the textures appear stretched along the edges of the figure. The solution is to spread out the UV facets along those edges, so they aren't viewed "edge-on" or crowded together any longer.

Thanks for the animation! What program did you do that in? I am using the latest version of UV Mapper Pro, 3.1a, I think. I also have Ultimate Unwrap, but I have a hard time with that program.

Now how would you go about getting into the inside of say a doorway? (using the new Polar mapping with UVMapper 3.0h)

I would map the inside and outside separately and spread the facets at the edges.

What program did you do that in? Ultimate Unwrap3D.

I thought so. I have that program, but I seem to find it hard to use. Maybe I need to try it again.

Practice and perseverance, Cyhiraeth.

Oooh, yeah, I figured out how to do that in Unwrap 3d! Thanks Little Dragon. "The Rain in Spain stays Mainly on the Plain"! (I do believe she's got it!)
