Items get reposted whenever someone updates the links, but yes it's becoming a little annoying. I'm actually holding off on reorganizing my free stuff because I don't want to flood the section. :) SnowS

New people may not even be aware of some of the older items, especially if they're buried or have been gone for a while. Also some of the older things are good for those who may have Poser 3 that they got from a magazine CD. Free Poser goodies annoying? Never :-)

Cyritch, If you are annoyed, why don't you make something new and spend the bandwidth and time to build your own site so that you can give us new stuff? If a link breaks or a person changes hosts or if they update their offerings or fix a problem or whatever, that item will probably need to be reuploaded, which means that it will appear in the front of the queue. Until we get a better search engine, it is nice to be occasionally reminded of some of these goodies or to find something lost which is available again. Carolly

Cyritch, When a file link is updated (usually to correct a URL), the item has to be reapproved and winds up back in "What's New" section. The only alternative is to leave a bunch of broken links in freestuff, so that when you're searching for something, all you get is empty files. One quick and easy way to tell if an item is a repost, is simply to look at the download count. If it has more than a hundred or so downloads and it's still on the first page, then it's pretty much sure to be a repost. If you have a problem with free stuff being reposted, then I suggest you take it up with the individual concerned. Thank you. Karen Poser Freestuff Coordinator

I get a HUGE kick out of seeing the old stuff! Nerd's "Impractical Chain Mesh" was the first item I ever downloaded and rendered an image with. It holds a very special place in my heart. :)

Quite a few times something has been re-posted that I had at one time and lost it, so I welcome the chance to get it again.

Karolly and Karen have a good point. However, in order to minimize confusion, when a product is re-uploaded, could Renderosity put a "originally posted on x/x/0x" in the product notes popup window. I too have been somewhat confused, when a freebie I downloaded a month ago is back on Page 1. Also, if the freebie is an updated version, could you also include that in the product notes popup window. Thanks, -The Starkdog

Starkdog, That's a good idea. I think that Karen could probably edit the product notes window, but staff members really don't like to touch files belonging to other people even if the ability is there, or even if they knew why the file was in the queue again. It would be much better if the originator added that sort of note, ie: "new URL - fixed my link" or "upgraded to fit Vicky 8". That way we'd know if if the file itself had changed. However, if the file was fixed, how many people would want to confess "upgraded to correct spelling error in path name" or "added missing texture", knowing that it might sit there for years as a reminder. ;^) I go by download count, and also by comparing file sizes if I have 2 zips from the same maker with the same name.
