Subject: Update on Carrara's Future..

This is from Antoine Clappier posted to the E-Groups list today: "Dear Dreamers, Let me start by reiterating than Adobe has not "purchased Carrara". Here is an extract of the Adobe Press Release related to Carrara: "[...] Adobe also licensed MetaCreations' Carrara` technology that incorporates 3D modeling, shading, scene building, animation, rendering, and special effects. Adobe will apply portions of the technology for integration into future versions of its graphics and web products. [...]" The complete press release can be read at: http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pressreleases/200008/2000082 8metastream.html The license in question is a non exclusive license on the source code of Carrara. This does not prevent an other company to take over the development, marketing and distribution of Carrara. I can reveal that such a company exist and that I am closely related to this company. The "lawyer discussions" mentioned previously are now closed and a deal has been signed. To answer to the question about the Carrare rendering engine: this engine is entirely new. It is up to 11 times faster than the Ray Dream 5 one and ranks among the fastest on the market. This being said, I can also reveal that some very exciting rendering technologies are planned for the next major release of Carrara. Happy rendering to all, Antoine Clappier" Regards, Clint

Well its about stinking time he says something on the subject. I wonder how long it will take before they make a press release saying officially who the owner is? I am assumeing (I know ass+U+me) that the Poser people bought it..which I think is awesome. This makes me feel better tho b/c next quarter we are buying Carrara for work here, and I would feel bad if I found out that no-one was buying it. Looks like I dont have to go look @ truespace anymore.

I'm glad that Carrara has a future. I was sorry to Metacreations sell off all their programs. I have most of them. Unfortunately I always have trouble with some of them whenever I buy a new machine. Carrara worked fine on my Compaq running Windows98. Now I have a Gateway running WindowsMe and every time I try to render anything, the computer immediately crashes. I can model all right. I just can't render. Anyone have any suggestions? (I also have trouble with Painter6. Whenever I try to choose a different brush, the computer immediately crashes.
