All Bryce primitives...ok, metaballs are kinda primitives...six or eight cliks to create, all basic mat's. I'm thinking this is prime material for the Hot20 if post it yeah? Orrrrr... that could be the scotch talking....

hmmnnnn...Claymor, I don't like to criticise, but the top image shows a complete lack of even the most basic knowledge of how colour works. For those lacking an intuitive colour sense, studying the theory of colour can help tremendously. Attached link may prove useful. Or you could have a look at the images in jocko500's gallery to enjoy his vibrant use of colour.

Why not actually look at the works you're poking fun at, and try to see what others like about them? edit to add - as the mother of a dyslexic daughter, I think some of your fun-poking was a bit below the belt. A lot of artists are dyslexic.

First of all I was not poking fun at ANY artist in particular. More at the previous Hot20 thread where, it is true, others may have taken a shot at a particular artist. Second, the above image was not ever intended to be "an image" in terms of color use. I wanted to see how quickly I could model a double helix. In the end I actually opened up the mat screen and clicked at random. Third, I HAVE looked at the works that you raise in question and while they certainly are colorful, I don't like them. But, again, this bit here is NOT a criticism of any ANYONE else's work. Nor does it imitate anyone else's style. Fourth, I'm REALLY trying to work out where you thought I was poking fun at dyslexic people. Fifth, of scotch. I had been drinking at the time. :) In conclusion if you, or anyone else, finds this, or anything else, I have posted offensive please forgive the offense as it was certainly never intended. Sorry if I somehow struck a nerve.

The sides you do with metabals ?

pogmahone ( ) posted Thu, 02 December 2004 at 10:26 AM

Pax ;o)

The one with the more colorful center, albeit without the most basic knowledge of how color works, :) is all metaballs. The others started as a single cylindar with a metaball on each end...all grouped. The group is multi-replicated,with spacing and rotation. Next I select the entire column and ungroup. Select all the metaballs and slighty enlarge. voila.

Try Vodka ! Preferably real Russian vodka. Wouldn't the threads have been easier to do with Smartpipe ? I always go for the easy answer.

smart pipe I would have had to pose. This is just multireplication and re-sizing.

Pog, I have to agree with Claymor on this one. I have read your link. I have looked through the mentioned artist gallery. Colorful? Yes it is. But that alone doesn't make it attractive to me. All the color in the world will not help jagged edges, twisted and broken poser figures and bad lighting. I guess for me, since I grew up drawing, when I finally got Bryce, I wanted to use it to make images that come to life. Not more flat, 2d style work. Which is what I see in a lot of these mentioned works. To each his own, of course. But I yet to understand the attraction in alot of them. To me, from my eyes, I see quickly thrown together images (not saying that alone makes it bad), that have really no content or meaning or 3D artistic merit. I think for me it goes back to "you get what you put in to it." Putting in 15 mins of work, with no intention of pushing your abilities results in a poor product. Thats just me. And if you notice, the majority of those that vote and rank this stuff great works, usually have a gallery of like works. People here have said there is originality in these works. Yet, I see about 10 artists here all doing the same style.. Maybe I am just to uneducated, or lacking in artistic eye to see the complexities of it??? I guess it could just be me? :-

sackrat funny you mention smartpipes, i only found the download for them lastnight. Now that my computer is playing up i can't do anything in bryce to use them on. For some reason it is taking ages to move an object in bryce when i have 4 or more objects set up in a WIP. Claymor, nice work with the metaballs, have a scotch for me mate ;)

Amen to you Striving...

LOL i found out what the problem was with Bryce guys, call me dumb. I had set Motion on 64 and i forgot i had it set on that, DUH! By the way what are those motion settings for? At a guess, is it to do with the animation settings. I have to agree with Claymor and striving as well on this one.
