Some old pianos are actually like that (wear & tear, etc.) But other than the gaps varying it looks pretty good.

Can't tell if it's meant to be a very modern keyboard. Living in a house full of pianos and keyboards, my only suggestion would be that most keyboards I see have 'white' keys that are more yellow, and the red cushioning material is more obviously made of felt. But......those are old-ish instruments, so ignore me if this is brand spanking new!
I'm not sure how to do the felt texture, (so didn't try). Yellow keys. Yeah, they do. Probably something to do with real ivory. So assume this is a brand spanking new one, hot of the Bryce assembly line. Maybe I'll do another one with it aged a bit. TobinLam - The reflection is actually looking back from a stage to the seats in a concert hall. I didn't want it to be too obvious, so rotated the sphere to show more of an abstract. The black curved thing in the centre reflection is a set of speakers that face the audience.

I haven't got a piano, but I'd swap it for the cat in a second...!

looks great to me..I guess it depends on the make and model; I've played everything from fairly good to some really beat-up models..have done some keyboard models in my time..though you actually cut out the gaps for the black keys (I got lazy..but then I was doing electronic versions..;)..a nice touch..great textures..now if you pull back some and show us the rest..this is going places, keep with it..

Most concerts featuring piano have the piano sideways to the audience so that they can see both the instrument and the pianist, so what would be reflected would be the wings or walls, depending on the type of stage. Light racks, curtains, flys, etc. would be most appropriate (even an emergency exit, lol!)
Fractals will always amaze me!
Hi Phillip. As you already know, I commented on this one on CGT. I'm really honored to be an inspiration to you: I admire a lot your works with Bryce and this is really flattering. Pianos are very difficult to model, with my "Steinway" I did the same: I didn't model what the viewer couldn't see :) And, as far as modeling goes, if you look at mine you'll see that I really messed up the black keys, modeling them way more square like they are in reality. If you're interested in some very detailed reference drawings of all the parts of a Grand Piano, I have them. They're also orthographic, so you can use them to draw upon. I should have a couple of Steinway logos somewhere on my HD. Just IM me and I'll send them to you. I really want to try one in XSI, but I'm waaaaaay behind the modeling skills needed to complete such a complex work. S.
A few people in the CGTalk forum (Doublecrash) noticed some errors in the shadows near the black keys. Mainly down to having one strong light without softshadows. So I've fixed that by adding ten lights with softshadows. Increased the render time from 10 minutes to 4 hours, but I hope it's fixed the problem.

The gaps between the keys look different spacing, which is a bit weird, so I'll need to fix that. Any other suggestions?
