Most of the ornaments are homemade, many of them by me and my sister when we were kids. Mom always said homemade was best. (It wasn't until I grew up that I realized that the truth was that we couldn't afford storebought ornaments, LOL! To this day, I prefer handmade Christmas decorations.)
Wow you guys start early for xmas decorating!! We do't normally put a tree up till about 15th or so.. Mind you the shops over here (UK) have been in commercial xmas mode for sometime.. hehe -S-
Last year we got my daughter an electronic keyboard with stand, chair, whole nine yards.... it took up the last free corner in the house so now we have NO place to put a tree. I'm thinking I may hang some branches and lights on the wall behind the couch in an artistic manner.... ha! Figure the odds.

It's a Norfolk Pine. Commonly used as a houseplant in offices and such, when potted. Outside, it can grow to be 200 feet tall. It's a popular Christmas tree in Hawai`i because it's a tropical plant. Other pine trees won't grow in the tropics. It will grow a foot or more a year, so my dad planted four trees in the backyard. Each year, he cuts one down to use as a Christmas tree. By the time he's cycled through them, the first one is tall enough to be a Christmas tree again.
They are pretty trees, with a lot of space for ornaments. They don't have that "piney" smell, though.
The species is originally from Norfolk Island in Australia. Supposedly, Captain Cook brought it to Hawai`i, hoping to make ship masts out of them. They turned out to be unsuitable for that purpose, though.
