Subject: How do I get a chrome effect?

kagem ( ) posted Mon, 18 December 2000 at 9:13 AM ยท edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 5:20 PM

I'm pretty much a 3d newbie and I was wondering how do I go about getting a chrome effect? Like for swords and other metals. Do I have to make a Reflection map, or can I just make it by the material controls. Also I'm trying to achieve something like this: http://www.hardcoregaming.com/vf3/images/top-pic1.gif How would I go about making the features, like the nose and eyes, a bit less prominent and look more robotish. Thanks for any help!

You mean chrome like this? JeffH. posted a few chrome shaders to the Props guild. That's what I used. ScottA

I'm assuming you mean chrome in Poser4? Set the material color to Black, Highlight to White, then in the Reflection map section load a small pic of blue sky scene. Almost anything will do, beach, mountains, desert, as long as it has a blue sky and maybe a few white clouds floating by. -JH.

Ambient colour black; Reflective colour white; Multiply through Lights and Object Colour unchecked. A yellow-ish ref map gives a gold metallic look...

wow, very nice. Is there anyway to have items in the scene reflect onto the chrome surfaces automatically? or can that only be done with reflection maps?

Heck with the texture, how do I get the helmet.

Render a pic of your scene with a wide angle lens minus the OBJ that will be chrome, flip it, then use that as a reflection map. Experiment with it.
