Subject: Strange behavior question

Hi,
I need to know if it is a Photoshop bug or what.
When I have a PSD file active and working on it, I go to save and get a message that the file is locked and can't be saved. The message says go to windows properties and unlock it.
But when I call up Windows properties for the file, there is nothing there to unlock it.
I end up saving under a new name and that creates too many extra files. I can't delete the locked file either.
Can someone help?
Thank you.

Is the Read-only Attribute checked off when you look at the Windows properties?

Did you open it from a CD rom? :) Common error in my classroom. The students will forget to copy the files to the hard drive first.

your Windows OS never released the file. It's more a problem with Windows than it is with Photoshop (MACs don't run into this issue). It has to do with the way your directory/folders are being displayed and if you have the "thumbnail" image saved for the file (you know, instead of seeing the "default" PS icon...)

It comes and goes and you ARE doing what is considered the "work-around" solution.

i was hoping this was resolved in CS or the latest OS "patch" from Microsquish.

It is on hard drive but I do have explorer window open with thumbnails. I'll try it with explorer closed and no thumbnails. Is MAC a better comp for graphics? I'm hoping to buy a new computer after the new year starts, maybe I'll go with Mac. Thank for all the replies.

I'm not into tech specs, but while I was working for Adobe, I had a Mac and PC on my desk. I honestly didn't have a preference. They both had features I liked (the computers that is) but as far as doing anything other than graphics, the PC was my choice for home, just due to software support for aplications and games. Also if you're into building your own, or tweaking parts and peices, it's also easier to find things for PC as far as upgrading video, sound, etc. As far as is one better than the other for graphics, there was a day where the Mac was the ONLY choice for a professional, but modern times, my vote is no, both will do the job just as well. Photoshop works just the same, looks pretty much the same, same tools, functions and everything else either way. I really have to say take a look at what other things you are going to want to do with the computer, and do some shopping to see what software is available to you on both platforms. (And be careul of the inevitable Mac Vs. PC debate. People have their preferences, you'll have to make your own.) :) Happy hunting ~ Rich
