Subject: Vue 4 is it worth it from Vue3?

ellocolobo ( ) posted Wed, 15 December 2004 at 3:14 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 1:48 PM

I have V3 at the present. My question is - is Vue4s difference worth the $69.00 investment. Thanks

It depends on if you use Poser. Vue 4's crowning achievment was the ability to Import Poser .PZ3 files! Allthough Vue's skin quality is'nt quite that of Poser, I think it renders faster. It can certainly do mirrors and metalics better! Vue3 may be able to split it's render jobs between computers, but I think Vue 4 can for sure, allthough it may need Mover4 to do so. = )

Definitely. If you can't afford upgrading to Vue 5 directly, Vue 4 is already a big improvement from Vue 3. If you look at e-on's pages, the main new features of Vue 4 are: * Volumetric atmospheres, clouds, lights, materials. * Lens flares, stellar and atmospheric objects. * SolidGrowth 2 for even more realistic and varied vegetation. * Solid3D terrain modeling, random rock generator. * Luminous and glowing materials, caustics. * 40% average increase in rendering speed. * New import/export filters (static Poser import, QuickTime VR). Follow the link for the full list to help you compare with Vue 3.

Well, I guess I just bought my self another present. Thanks to all for taking the time to answer my question. Happy Holidays to you all...

Allthough Vue's skin quality is'nt quite that of Poser... Dunno - Vue 5 looks pretty close. Vue 4 did nothing but good things for me, so I have no complaint at all against it (plus, the CDs were hybrid 'doze/Mac, so even though I originally bought it a long time ago for a Windows 2000 box, I was able to eventually ditch Windows and install it on my old Cube.) If you have Mac OSX 10.3 and just bought Vue 4, just make sure you get the 10.3 installer app thingy (free download), else setup won't launch. /P

Go ahead and make the move as I did, and in a couple of weeks or months if you like it you can upgrade to Vue 5 for $129.

Yes.

As a rule of thumb......and this is stating the obvious......the more current your software, the better.

The old version just keeps getting older and older. Eventually, it will fall off of the upgrade path. If you wait that long, then you'll have to pay full price to upgrade to Vue 10 -- or whatever.

Yes, oh yes a significant difference, and 5 is another jump in quality and ease.

Actually- if you learn to use Vue 4 or Vue 5's Materials Editor and carefully choose which atmosphere you pick, you can absolutely match Poser's skin look from P4 or P5. While Bryce is the worst with Poser skin, both Bryce and Vue are ray-tracing programs, while Poser 4 is a Phong Renderer and Vue 5 is a sort of hybrid Ray-Trace renderer. The key is to get a "soft" and "wet" look in Vue 4 that doesn't just "happen" after importing from Poser. I thought that there might be some tutorials around about this, maybe... However- get Vue 5, as your lighting and atmospheric choices are much greater- and easier to get LOVELY POSER SKIN for your Poser Babes!
