Thanks! According to stories I've heard Barb had just hit "post" right when the OT went down as well. We'll have to make her a scapegoat. [grin]

Well, with those two involved, we can be at peace knowing that The Den didn't go out with a whimper.
Maybe not a bang or a shout either (although I have no doubt each is perfectly capable of either) but at least not with a whimper.
I'm not much of a country music fan but:
"And I'll hang around as long as you will let me
And I never minded standin' in the rain.
You don't have to call me darlin', darlin'
You never even call me by my name. "

Darn, it vanished before I got to see the final response to my fake "but is it art?" thread. It really surprised me (but probably shouldn't have) that some folks seemed to take it seriously, one notoriously self-righteous member even going so far as to condescend, clearly missing the point. Again. Ah well, the less things change, the less they change. :-) See y'all at the Poser Pros Chicken Coop, the most evil, horrible, monstrous place in the 3D universe, if certain hypocritical claims are to be believed. ;-)

Nahhhh.
It's just a great place to go whenever one is in the mood for a fight......and I haven't been in that kind of a mood lately. I've got other things that I enjoy doing more.
RR has chosen one path -- shutting down controversy.
PP has chosen another path -- allowing free-for-alls.
In my book, both choices are entirely up to the site owners.
So-long, Den. I hardly knew ye.
I was posting in several of the threads, going down the list. Hit "post" and the forum was suddenly gone. :( Vanished under my fingers like a mirage in daylight. About 2 in the afternoon my time, which was unexpected... thought it would be at midnight server time. :deep sigh: The Forum which uses the most resources and has the most pain associated with it and the most flame wars is the Poser Forum... but the site can't cut off its own right leg and expect to boogie down the road for long. We'll have to continue the Firefly discussion elsewhere (I bet they might use Poser for a previz or something). We'll have to continue the discussion of the extended Return of the King elsewhere (I wonder if we can make movies like that in Poser someday). We'll have to mention my Christmas Day Open House eleswhere (there will be other Poser users and members of Renderosity there). As to the political discussions? I guess that will also continue in the Poser Gallery (be careful of the broken glass and wounded feelings). Until this site gets rid of the damned HOT 20 and replaces it with something meaningful, there will be a continuous, brutal, ugly war here which has already resulted in more hurt than anything we ever said in the Den, Tavern, or OT combined! But I guess it is ok to savage, bribe, and intimidate each other for votes but necessary to protect the weapons purveyors and warriors who carry real guns. I've spent most of my career building communities of various sorts, and will say this: you don't build togetherness by forcing people to talk only within narrow topics. Robots are now trained to answer questions about banking if they operate within a financial bank (lest the conversation stray to fishing or laying a fire in a fireplace), and they can process hotel reservations (again not straying into Indian territories or intellectual doubts)... but humans, real living, breathing humans, are far more complex than that and so are our interactions! Artists, as the interpreters of what it means to be human and the entire human experience, are the most complex of all!!! Most of the Forums at Compuserve were very strictly policed as to topic. All of those Forums are gone and dead. I shepherded my group of Fire-Breathing Black Sheep from Forum to forum... any of my lost sheep knew that if they found me, they could find the others. We are now off CIS completely, but we are still together. A decade later. Friends. We got together because we all played a game called Magic and we traded the cards for it. We are still together because we talk about opera and Shakespeare and cats and chocolate and Yosemite and health and homemade fireworks and politics and weather and even digital art. The groups which only talked about trains or only talked about investments are gone and scattered. We are together. Communicating, especially communicating about that which isn't essential for survival, is what distinguishes us as human. If all we can talk about is the latest model for sale or how to get a texture to render, are we any better than the dog who can only bark if there is an intruder or the cat who only meows to be let out? Carolly, opinionated as ever

I noticed that Carolly wasn't there to give me a midnight smootch as the forum went down! Of course, the forum didn't go down at midnight either. Oh well, at least Captor 213 didn't give me a midnight smootch. Thank you Captor, wherever you are.

I did get the extended edition but I didn't get the gift set. As far as eggnog and hugfests, we'll have to wait till they close down the next forum. OK, I admit it. I drank it all up and practiced self-hugulation. Dang, I'm good! [grin]

ROFL!!!! It was good fun whilst it lasted, folks. Truly good fun. But fear is a funny thing. I'll not be headed to pros any time soon. Seems to me they allow that sort of discussion only in the one forum -- otherwise they appear (and it is strictly appearance, I have no proof they do so all the time) to dislike having difficult subject discussed elsewhere. One thing though -- I'm loud, direct, and talkative. When I get up on my box, I'll take on everything and anyone. Done so here a few times, and pulled punches only once or twice. I just never really got to do it in the Den, damn it. ah well... so... When's the next attempt at an open forum here?
thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)

I see it's now gone. Does anyone know who made the last post?
