THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Just an idea.....

orbital ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 2:27 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 4:55 AM

I've always enjoyed reading the AOM interview, and realising that 99.9% of us will never get to feature I propose an on going thing within the Bryce community, to get to learn things about each other. The way it would work is say I start it off by choosing another member to interview, asking similair questions as to what gets asked in AOM, plus a couple of off the wall questions like whats your favourite food, or who would you most like to meet etc. Once that person has done an interview, they then choose the next member to ask questions and so on. The questions could be passed through IM and the person getting interviewed will then place the post in the forum. At the end of each interview they will then name who they want to go next. What do you think? Any good or a waste of time?

Orbital i think you have hit on a great idea. go for it, it will make it interesting getting to know our fellow Brycers. LT oops i mean CrazyDawg

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Yeah... nice idea. Im always interested to get som proof that I`m not the only weirdo around here. My chances to get that would certainly increase with more interviews being done. Just kidding. Serious.. it would be fun to get some more info on great Brycers.

Definitely a good idea, who's up first?

Hmm, sounds good. Although, I can't help but think that those of us who never get asked to be interviewed will develop a complex. You know, like being the kid no one wants on their team.

Fantastic! I think "Artist of the Week" to get a faster turn around? If AS can keep a link to past weeks then we can link back anytime. Great idea Orbital. Maybe we should make up a standard set of questions that people always would liked asked?

ahem,, speak for yourself Bryster. :-D Well of course Orbital has to go first! But yeah I can see the left out syndrome thing happening. I kind of liked the threads where we asked a question and everyone who wasn't shy about it, posted their answer. That was fun too. Especially the mug shots one! Hey we've got a lot of new members now, maybe its time to start that one again? And we all have to get out our digital camera's and get recent photos for it! ;P I'm not at home so I can't start a "what do you look like" thread or I would.

drawbridgep ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 10:44 AM

Maybe going on that idea Ang, we should have a few questions that go along with the mug shot thread. So we get an idea where everyone is. Brief background. And then go with Orbital's idea each week or month focusing on one member in depth.

Claymor ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 11:14 AM

yeahhhh...I like the idea of a standard set of questions so we get a sort of basic profile from each person. Then the interviewer could add 3-5 of their own questions. That way the person to be interviewed next can get going on the standard questions without having to wait for the iterviewer to be available to ask. We could store the thread in the header as a sort of "meet the cast" type thing. Sounds like something for Zhann to administer. :)

orbital ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 11:52 AM

What I'd suggest is sorting out the standard questions first so to start we could have: Who is so and so When did you start using Bryce Describe your style What inspires you whats your favourite piece of work that you have done Give a list of 5 favourite pieces by others (Bryce) Give a list of 5 favourite pieces by others (non bryce) These are just a general idea, any others to do with Bryce then put them down. @ Bandolin and Ang, thats a valid point, but if we say that the same person cannot be interviwed more than once this should sort out that problem. I'd like to hear from AS and Zhann on this idea. It shouldn't mean too much extra work other than a link to the idea in the backroom with past participants etc. I'm guessing that this would be a weekly thing but thats up to AS, Zhann to decide. Obviously the more regular the better the chance we have of giving everybody a chance. Anyway thanks for the interest, I for one would love to see this happen!

how about some more "real life" stuff that describes who you are outside of the community: Family, education, occupation, other interests, ambitions, music, politics, books, movies, the country you live in and so on and so on...

Aw come on Phil, I mean all we want to know is your visa number and bank details now play fair! Seriously though we need to keep it within a topical format or AS won't go for it for being to OT. If you don't want to answer a particular question, then you can sort it out with whoever is asking you. I'm sure the off topic ones will be light hearted and not of a personal nature.

I have a vague memory of this "brycer of the week/fortnight/month/whatever" being mentioned in a thread from a few months ago (but buggered if I can find it now). Adding to what Orbital has mentioned, what I also think would be good would be to get interviews of brycers who inhabit not only this site but other sites as well (like 3dc and delphi bryce forum) if they're keen, as a way to bring some of the people who are active on the different sites together. Now that would be interesting.

I also like orbitals way of doing it - that way doesn't involve the PTB of the forum having their workloads added to (apart from a link update which I wouldn't think would involve too much, or if it did, if the thread titles were kept similar to each other, that would aid forum searching greatly, or someone else could keep a list somewhere else, the location of which could be advertised with each new brycer of the .... interview).

I've IM AS to see if we are able to go ahead with this, so just waiting for him to catch up! Another thought I had would be that you can't interview the person who originaly interviewed you. That way we have a better chance of getting round as many people as possible. I'll post another message if I get the go ahead from AS. Cheers Joe
