So when the sun is setting and you are rushing back from doing last minute shopping (or first minute if you're like me), or coming home after a hard day at the office, Spare a thought for others less fortunate. I am happy with the way most of the textures have worked out, just having trouble finding a stone building tex that works without tiling into obvious repeats and setting up patterns. I have trawled a load of the normal texture sites, mayang and so on, just can't find anything that works. Anyone got any ideas please. Most old churches in the UK are stone, you see.

I have this one that I took in Michigan. It may be too modern (although it's 100 years old) and regular for you. Seems you're going for more of a west country feel. But my texture reminds me of churches I've seen in Kent. I have the larger version if you're interested.

This is the sort of thing I mean. And it is a Kentish church. I have akways lived in the SE area.

I have a couple of textures that are not unlike that photo you posted. I can e-mail them to you if you like.

Where is that one? I used to live in West Kent.

I have to admit I am not certain, just googled for historic Kentchurches, and this was the only good image I found. Didn't say where it was. Whereabouts in West Kent? I was in the Dartford area.

Maybe this? (It's seamless)

Or maybe this one? Change the hues around, and they could look like the picture you posted.

CorwinRathe ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 6:21 PM

Try some of the the castle models out there. Some of them come with some good stone textures that would work real well for this as well.

Are you uv mapping the church so that each surface is separate? I have found that Bryce likes uv mapped models, especially when you use PROCEDURAL textures. I do not know if any others have experienced this, but when trying to get PROCEDURAL textures to work usually they refuse to tile properly on one or two sides. If that happens to you, you can open your model in uv mapper then apply box mapping and save it out. Now, when it opens in Bryce and you use PROCEDURAL textures with PARAMETRIC mapping, the tiling will work on all the sides properly.

This is actually a picture of Peter Pan as an older man. You can tell this because he has, once again, neglected to apply soap to his feet in order to get his shadow to stick where it should be. ;)

dvd master - those are quite like the textures I have. Can't remember where I downloaded them from, it was the site of a texture-painter, he gave away a lot of his old hand-painted textures as freebies. Wish I could find his site again.....

pog - I believe this is the site you are referring to?

Thanks everyone. I will try out those 2 mats dvd master. GG...As per my usual habit the church is all built from bryce primitives, well mostly all. I did find the window somewhere. The door arch is actually a flat square using one of the textures from the site jaymonjay mentioned and a trans I made from it. Think I will have to have another go at that church. It just didn't go as well as the Lych gate. No post work yet..can sort hair out later.

Well I completely rebuilt the church (as much as I need for this image), window and all are now all mine. Does it look any better? CorwinRathe's suggestion of a stone image from a castle was what I used, from Whojumaflips Abbey Ruin. His name will come to me as soon as I finish this. Your new church looks spectacular. Are you using a lattice for the snow on the roof?

chohole ( ) posted Wed, 22 December 2004 at 11:11 AM

No its just a cube with a snow mat I have worked out which has a transparency built in, to get the patchiness.

Pakled: "He goes down to the bog to warm his feet..." Chohole's pic made me think of Aqualung, too. He's not really an object of pity, though. Something to do with his "eyeing little girls with bad intent." probably. :^)

And for better or for worse its now in the gallery...(minus the brown snow). I am afraid Pakled and Tjohn's comments are above my head..what am I missing?

That turned out rather well, Chohole, my compliments. The begger in your image reminded them of Jethro Tull's song Aqualung and they're reciting the lyrics to it. Aqualung my friend --Dont start away uneasy You poor old sod, you see, its only me

Sitting on a park bench --
Eyeing little girls with bad intent.
Snot running down his nose --
Greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes.
Drying in the cold sun --
Watching as the frilly panties run.
Feeling like a dead duck --
Spitting out pieces of his broken luck.
Sun streaking cold --
An old man wandering lonely.
Taking time
The only way he knows.
Leg hurting bad,
As he bends to pick a dog-end --
He goes down to the bog
And warms his feet.

Feeling alone --
The armys up the rode
Salvation la mode and
A cup of tea.
Aqualung my friend --
Dont start away uneasy
You poor old sod, you see, its only me.
Do you still remember
Decembers foggy freeze --
When the ice that
Clings on to your beard is
Screaming agony.
And you snatch your rattling last breaths
With deep-sea-diver sounds,
And the flowers bloom like
Madness in the spring.

"frilly panties" I think should be "pretty Peggys" :)
