Subject: Anyone using V3 New Generation 2005 yet?

steerpike ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 1:05 PM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 6:28 AM

With the DAZ voucher, this item looks a snip at $6.

In all probability I'll get it anyway, but how distinctive (ie un-V3-like) are the characters? Can it do for V3 what, say, Brom does for M3?

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 1:43 PM

I just checked out the ad, and the images all seemed to still have that unimesh to them. Maybe its just me, but I think I can pass...

gillbrooks ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 2:22 PM

Hmmmm....this is the first I've heard of this. Nothing in the last newsletter I had - can you psot a IRL please ? :-)

It just went up yesterday, I think. There's some discussion of it in the Commons section of the DAZ forum.

gillbrooks ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 3:57 PM

I found the commons thread but couldn't find a product link so thanks for that :-) Why are they hiding it or is it just me missing something LOL!

Two things strike me about the product description: 1) "Create literally hundreds of new characters that dont have that old Vicky 3 look" - that old Vicky 3 look?? Daz dissing its own products? 2) "All morphs are categorized under clear group headings (In Poser 4 and Daz studio) for easy recognition" - derr, what about Poser 5??

randym77 ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 4:49 PM
  1. The PAs write those descriptions, not DAZ. And I don't think it's dissing, exactly. Just that some people want Vicky to look different - not like Vicky, because she's so widely used.

  2. I wondered about that, but I think all it means is that the morphs are organized so that they're easy to use in P4 and DS. Poser 5 users can organize stuff themselves, any way they want.

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 4:56 PM

I saw some screenshots and thought it still had the old unimesh look. I might try to keep an open mind if people are actually buying since DAZ's promo images aren't always so great...

Here is a face created with V3 New Generation 2005. Used Real Skin Shader on texture.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 5:43 PM

Is Harvey Mann (the named artist for this) the same guy as "Hmann"? All this talk of the wonderful new morphs, but no sign of a list...

hmmmmmm.....no offense....but I think I'll pass on this one. The crinkles around the mouth look well bunched up...not natural so to speak. But the texture itself looks great :) Link to the morphs:

Yes, it's Hmann. The morph list is extremely long. Someone's posted it in the thread at DAZ.

rockets ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 5:51 PM

How about textures? Does she use V3 maps?

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

dlk30341 ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 5:52 PM

Yep...uses V3 maps...already asked that one over at Daz ;)

Dave-So ( ) posted Tue, 21 December 2004 at 5:58 PM

it would be great to see a few more faces made with it..the ones at the DAZ promo look a lot like V3 to me. the one above doesn't...looks like this may have potential. If I could ever figure out how to use magnets, this may not be needed however.

I just can't wait for V4.

I want to spend tons of money on all new hair, clothes, textures, character packs, morphs, etc, etc.........

Uh....on second thought..........

Ditto Dave-so..I'm magent stupid :(. Also ditto Xeno...I think Mil3 figures is as far as I go.....The ONLY thing that ever convince me to go to a V4...is getting rid of those hideous arms.

Just knowing DAZ, V4 will probably just have some jp updates and more morph injections. I would hope its not a unimesh figure per se and has a completely different look.

Phantast ( ) posted Wed, 22 December 2004 at 4:59 AM

Really, I don't want to see a V4 at all. There's enough fragmentation in the market already.

Kelderek ( ) posted Wed, 22 December 2004 at 1:47 PM

I bought it and played around a little. The main advantage I find is the face morphs, which allows for more styles than standard V3.

The drag is that you cant inject the standards V3 morphs, so you have to make up your mind which to use: V3 or V3 Generation 2005... Which did put me in an awkward situation: the expression morphs in V3 Gen 2005 is not very good.

However, I found a clever work-around that makes this package usable:

  1. Load V3 Gen 2005 and shape a nice face

  2. Export the head as a morph target (obj file)

  3. Load a regular V3

  4. Load the obj file as a morph target to the head and apply the face you created on V3 Gen 2005

  5. Add all the standard V3 expressions and body morphs you need and dial away

Voila! The best of two worlds in one figure :-)

Hdrider ( ) posted Wed, 22 December 2004 at 4:03 PM

Hello,
I purchased the V3 Gen 2005 character and for the most part I like it.
What I don't like is that it is very memory-heavy, weighing in at 90+ meg, it will drag your system down.
A suggestion to the author: Use the INJ/REM system so a person can pick and choose what morphs to use.
For now, I use the same method as Kelderek, create the character I like and the export the morph.

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 22 December 2004 at 5:45 PM

Yes, I don't understand why he didn't use the INJ and REM system. No way am I going to use all those morphs, and it's a drag to not be able to easily get rid of the ones that are unused.

Totoro3D ( ) posted Wed, 22 December 2004 at 7:10 PM

Uhm... does it mean I should rather not try to user her on my not-exactly-high-end notebook? I did not have any memory or speed problems with V3 and could even manage two V3s at the same time ;)

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 22 December 2004 at 7:21 PM

She's a little over 90 Mb. That's less than a fully-loaded V3, I think. But if you add V3's standard morphs to these, it'll be humongous.

Hdrider ( ) posted Wed, 22 December 2004 at 8:21 PM

Hello,
Well, one work-around for the INJ/REM for this character is to use Poser's Little Helper (P.L.H.) at:

http://home.online.no/~kjellil/Index-AllStuff.htm

It will convert your saved morph obj's into INJ/REM files. Takes some practice but it is really a slick program.
