Subject: Bryce vs Vue
You don't really want me to go there, do you? General concensous is that while Bryce is the superiour prog, Vue does landscapes better and faster.... No doubt others will come in with their 2cents worth....

about $200?..;) I have Bryce 4 'n 5, and Vue 3, and there's a surprising amount of similarity..you can get Bryce 4 for free (see thread farther up there) at yer local bookstore..I got Vue 3 the same way, don't know if you can still get it..
I think there might be demo versions of both on their respective websites, you could try them out and see..

Have a look at the Most Viewed galleries for both programs, and you'll get an idea of what each program is capable of. Personally I find the Bryce interface easier to work with. If you wait a month or so (?!) a new version of Bryce is going to be released at $99. It will have faster rendering than the current version. In the meantime you could get the free version of Bryce 4 on 3D World Magazine #59 (see discussion in separate thread). You'd get an idea if you liked the interface, then. One of the unfortunate difference is that Bryce was laid on ice during many years (no updates) while Vue was developing pretty well; Vue 5 Pro is an impressive prog with high end stuff like Global Illumination, a powerful tree lab and terrain generator while we Brycers are still waiting for the first update...well, you'll probably get both; Bryce for the easy interface, Vue for the pro quality landscapes; good luck to your choice!
I asked this same question a few months back. Didn't get a definitive answer so I tried the demo of both and settled on Bryce. Why? Vue crashed my machine every 5 minutes. More frustrating to learn than trying to feed my kids vegetables. And for $60 Bryce was a bargain. Sure Vue and Terragen probably make more realistic landscapes, but if its gonna take me a year to learn'em... I don't know, a few years from now I'll probably change my mind. But if you're asking here, you know the answer you're gonna get.
