Subject: I hate computers!!!

Okay, DAZ|Studio and P5 kept crashing on my newer machine(OpenGL) stuff, so went to ATI and got the newest drivers for my Radeon 9800 AIW card. I installed the drivers, but catalyst(ATI's nifty interface) installed, but the drivers keep failing. To make a long story short, I wiped my HD, re-installed XP and SP2, loaded the old video drivers and everything is okay. I reload P5, start it up, and the damn computer will not run Poser unless the P5 CD is in. This is driving me crazy. I am re-formatting the Poser partition of my drive(135 gig), and will re-install it again. Other programs were doing this as well(MS train simulator, Trainz), and it is ridiculous. Well, at least my Dell "frankenstein" 8200 runs P5 okay. Why is this happening??? -The Starkdog

Well, I guess I spoke too soon. For some reason, Renderosity runs SOOOOOO SSSLLLLLOOOWWW on my broadband connection. I can download just fine from the freestuff and the marketplace, but it takes over a minute to view message, and even longer to post one. Sorry for the re-posts. Once again, computers are driving me crazy. BTW, how can I get more than 4 partitions out of a 250 gig HD??? -The starkdog

The P5 cd problem is probably due to needing to reupdate Poser 5. Make sure you do the service releases and that problem should go away. - Noel

OK, I re-formatted my Poser drive, and reinstalled P5 SR4. I got it to work this time -whewww!!! Anyhow, I use Opera 7.54whatever browser, soI could care a less about IE666. I use McAfee AV and firewall in conjunction with XP's built-in firewall. I am also on a router, so I've got "triple" layer protection. Now time to flood my Runtime folder. -The Starkdog

Disable the built-in XP firewall - It's the cause of most of the software incompatabilities listed on the microsoft web site. I'm using Symantec Anti-virus, Zone Alarm free personal firewall and a hardware firewall using NAT (network address translation - makes a hacker's job a lot harder when attacking your system). I've never had any problem with XP, SP2 & Poser 5 because of this combination - I was using Zone Alarm before I upgraded to SP2 - I think that helped as well.

Everything works fine, except for when I try to load Jim Burton's P5 test and calibration scene. I then get the wonderful dialog box asking for the Poser CD. I cannot work around it. Everything on the CD is on my Poser drive. I don't know what to think. -The Starkdog

Is it possible that you have some sort of spyware on your system? I've seen spyware that can do really bizarre things... bonni

Sorry I can't help, but just to let you know you're not alone, others have had these feelings...

Starkdog, I was getting the 'No disk in D:' thingy for awhile myself. There may be a statement in one of your files looking for textures on a D: drive. I had picked up some goodies at PoserWorld and some of the clothes had references to a D: drive in them. I edited the files with the proper path statements and everything's good. Hope this helps, Rance

You might try getting CorrectReference (Free version is available here in Free Stuff.) That should fix any bad texture references, and you'll be surprised at how many you find.
