Subject: Bri...Does she look real yet? Real Skin Shader

I haven't been working on Bri much for a while, my mother and father, both have been in the hospital off and on the last few months. My father just passed away in November and it was quit devestating to all of the family

On Bri I used Face-Off tutorial on the real skin shader (which I will never do again (I will buy the program for it)). I redid everything 4 times till I finally got it correct. I kept missing stuff (that was right there in the tutorial). I skip around too much I guess.

Well anyway I am still having a problem with the original texture I made (getting the front colors(shading)to line up good with the back)

By using Face_Off tutorial, how does she look ?
any comments will be most welcome
Thank you I forgot to mention she is an elf/faerie, the reason for the bigger eyes

Looking good! I would try a little bit more speculary on the skin, but that is a matter of taste.

I too extend to you my condolences. Bri sure looks cute, she almost looks like my buddy's kid sister. I too, tried the tutorial, tore out half of my hair, and then got the true shader. You will not be disappointed. Check my gallery here(I don't know how to link it here), for "Hot Studio Lights". That is the full sized render of what I attached. -The Starkdog

Very nice! It's great to see people finally starting to really explore the power of the material room. You might want to try a lower shading rate, particularly on the hair. It looks a bit "noisy."

I agree with the increased specularity comment and you may want to consider a more natural eye color especially since the makeup is bright. I think it might make her look a little more alive.

By natural eye color, I meant something a bit more muted or a greater blending of highlights and lowlights.

Beo, the eyes definitely look a lot better :)

In testing for realism, I usually hide parts of the image to determine if that part of the images looks real (so the other parts of the image do not interfer). So hiding her head above - her shoulders and arms look real (although her hair spoils that a little - due to absence of shadowing). Keep in mind that it's not just skin that makes people look real, it's pose, joint deformations, shadowings, etc. Her forehead upwards looks good too. Her eyes appear to be the weakpoint in the image, and her faceshape and make-up are probably not right.
