been having fun with Displacement mapping & decided to make a freebie out of it,a follow up to the high poly 'Hellcolumn' made earlier this year, this time though using displacement mapping on a low res cylinder for the detail :) Follow the link to the 'downloads' page. Pro pack & P4 users,my apoligies but the high-res mesh the displacement map is generated from is just under 1 million polys and would be virtually useless in Poser, Notes*DazStudio .zip should be extracted to your 'daz studio' folder,You'll find the prop file under 'Stonemason',also includes a light set under 'Hellcolumn_02' Cheers Stefan

And another great example of what Poser 4 users are missing! This is simply cool... Thanks!

That's what displacement maps do? Holy crow another feature I need to learn. Thanks for the killer column Stonemason.

Uhhh, subpolygon displacement mapping is a wonderful thing. It means that you get "real" surface detail instead of "fake" (bump mapping). C4D users petitioned MAXON for it and the latest version R9 has it. This is one of the few reasons why I upgraded to P5 (early-bird). That and the vastly improved materials and library.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.
