Subject: Where's my reflection map checkbox???

Hi everyone, Nice to be back here after a long while; even nicer to receive my Vue 5 upgrade this morning... However - playing around with it I ran into a problem. The manual says that if some amount of global reflectivity is set, the "use reflection map" option becomes available in the advanced material editor. With me, it doesn't (see screenshot). Am I overlooking something, or what? Any suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Reflection map used to be an option available for Vue Pro only. This is either a typo in the manual (if that checkbox is still reserved for the 'pro' version) or a bug in Vue 5 (if they meant to include that option with Vue 5). You should report that to e-on software and see what they have to say about that. Did you check their support forum ?

Hi Agiel, Thanks for the quick response. I didn't find anything on this either at e-on support or on their forums. If it's a typo, it's a REALLY big one, as you can see from this extract from the Vue d'esprit 5 help-files (same text as in the manual). I'll contact e-on about this and post their reply here.

I see... That kind of typo is not uncommon with that kind of software considering it is split between a Pro and Standard version. It will be interesting to see what comes out of contacting e-on. One thing you can check - do you see a 'Force use of reflection map' in the Render Options dialog ? If you don't, that would confirm the hypothesis of a typo. If you do, it is likely to be a bug.

I think you're right, and I fear it is a typo - there is no force use of reflection map'in the render options...

I have Vue 5 mine looked just like the above & I just clicked on it :)

MartinPh ( ) posted Wed, 29 December 2004 at 10:54 AM

dlk, that's not the problem; according to the manual there should be a second check-box below that one, which would open another function editor next to the one you've already got there (I've got THAT one, too...)

IC - DOH...Sorry I misunderstood :(....Doesn't speak a whole lot for my exploring V5 yet does it? ~blush~

Meanwhile e-on has replied to my query, and alas: it IS an error in the manual and helpfiles. Sloppy (and disappointing)!

dlk30341 ( ) posted Wed, 29 December 2004 at 3:13 PM

Very disappointing indeed :(...From what I've read here & elsewhere V5 is sort of stripped down version of Pro...hence the manuel reflects the Pro version...heck even in some menu choices with V5 you see VuePro.

blaufeld ( ) posted Wed, 29 December 2004 at 4:13 PM

Not exactly dlk, the advanced illumination methods (GI, GR et al.) doesn't exists in the Pro version - and them alone are the main reason I upgraded to V5...

dlk30341 ( ) posted Wed, 29 December 2004 at 4:24 PM

I guess I should have been more specific.......I wasn't counting the lighting......that I know....I was talking about the manual & the actual program refering to V4Pro....obviuosly there was some intertwining...to CERTAIN specifics..... That's why I upgraded as well...the lighting...waiting on Infinite myself.....I really didn't mean to start...don't know how to say it diplomatically...so I'll leave at that. We all have our opinions of V5...I'll keep my mouth shut from now on....and stick to disappointments over at E-ON. That said...I love Vue & will be my program of choice for rendering & landscapes :)

No probs dlk, we will be all more satisfied when all the little bugs will be sorted out... :P
