Hi.

I was looking to try and find a WWI tank. I have seen several WWII items and modern warfare style, but wanted the old English Mk-IV type. I found one but at $300 it seemd rather pricey for a hobby project of mine

Male or Female? (That'll start some people wondering :) Seriously, are you using Poser 5? The displacement map feature would make it much easier to do some of the surface detail -- rivets and such.

Its made after scale drawings so the dimensions are pretty accurate.
But unfortunately it looks like such a polygon heavy project is way to much for my skimpy machine, so it doubt I can finish it anytime soon. :-(

But if anyone wants to invest the time and has the right equipment to finish it, he can have it ! :-)

Male or Female?????? For a tank? Can someone please explain this to me. Im a history boff, I read alot books on weapons of the two WW s, I never heard of this.

akura_, the male tanks were equipped with two 6 pdr naval guns while the female tanks carried four Vickers machine guns in their side sponsons.
There were also hermaphrodite tanks with one 6 pdr and two Vickers machine guns.

"Male", Female" and "Hermaphrodite" were the official designations used for the different types of tanks.
Google for "landships" and you should find some more info.

It's great for the treads, also ... especially animated treads.

I shall have to do some checking, but some of the WW1 tanks, at least, used Hotchkiss machine guns. Also, the six-pounder guns one the later Marks had a shorter barrel. So I get the impression that the pics above depict an early mark. (So I live about twenty miles from where they invented them. This is local history.)

You realise I'm now curious about just what you're doing. Incidentally, there were all sorts of odd-looking tank ideas floating around between the World Wars, and even into the early years of WW2. One or two companies tried to sell conversion kits for agricultural/industrial tractors, of the general sort made by Holt/Caterpillar, and the idea was revived in New Zealand in the early days of the war against Japan. The German tanks in the Indiana Jones movies may not be "real", but they're very much in the style of the times, and there were one or two obscure German designs in trials before the war, which only saw service in newsreels.
