Subject: Looking for a couple of hair pieces

Spire ( ) posted Thu, 06 January 2005 at 10:36 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 5:59 AM

Does anyone know where I can find a Marie Antoinette-style hair,in otherwords a big powdered wig, for a V3 character? I'm also looking for just a moustach, preferably morphable, for an M3 character without having to buy the whole DAZ beard set. Any suggestions? And thanks in advance!

The closest I've seen is Victoria's Changing Pony Tail at DAZ. Not the new Ultimate Changing Pony Tail, the old one. It's designed for Victoria 2, but the hair pieces are just props, so you can put them on any character. It has an expansion pack that lets you make historical-looking hairstyles. There's also a separate map pack, that includes white textures. They are PC items, so if you're a member, you can get each of these packs for $1.99 each.

For a morphing mustache, check out the "Stylez Facial Hair" at RuntimeDNA. Very cheap, and good quality. I think there's a pack with extra textures, too.

rDNA has a mustache - just search mustache it'll come up. Still priced at $2.50 and morphable

THANKS to both of you! I have the DAZ CPT plus the expansion (and fit for V3 from somewhere), but so far what I've tried with it doesn't give me the look I'm going for. Going to try playing with RDNA's Brad stylez to see if I can get closer. Meanwhile if anyone sees what I'm talking about, I'd LOVE to take a look at it.

And Thanks for the mustashe suggestion. I'm heading over there for a look right now.

Neftis has a Marie Antoinette type hair style.

Wow, Neftis has been busy. That gown that goes with the hair is gorgeous. (Why haven't I seen it around the galleries?) I love that frothy lace.

Thanks for the suggestion, Marianne. I don't mean to sound picky, but this isn't quite it either. From the description, it doesn't sound like there are many--if any--styling morphs, so I'm guessing its pretty much WYSIWYG. However,I just might have to get that gown!

MarianneR ( ) posted Thu, 06 January 2005 at 2:32 PM

I don't have the hair, so I can't tell if it morphs or not. And I agree, that gown looks lovely :)

Spire, why don't you post an image of the kind of hair you want?

Here's pretty much what I'm looking for, randym, only in a powdered white. Hope someone can help, and thanks again for all the replies.

We have been asking for this for quite a while. Traveler had something over at BBay a few years back, but it was taken down before I could get my fingers on it. He and Anton are about the only modelers who have tried to deal with this sort of curls on curls look. Maya has some curly styles, too, but they are very modern. Elleana hair is serviceable: http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=7298 You might find the linked thread useful... if only for giggle value. http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1456975 Carolly

WOW! Thanks Carolly for the link and thread. I had no idea I could get something like this with the Daz Ponytail. Obviously I haven't played around with it enough. Actually, since I posted last, I managed to come up with something close by combining the ponytail with Traveler's Brad Stylez and got a really nice bee-hive thingie purely by accident. Haven't tried to "powder" it yet, but one of the free Wenke textures for the PT matches the Brad default tex well enough that I should be able to tweek them to get a nice platinum white. I'm gonna have to fiddle some more with this today, I am sure!

Maya's free big curly hair can be manipulated to look somewhat like the top of that "Antoinette" do. See the angel on the left side of a render I did a long time ago. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=302446&Start=49&Artist=queri&ByArtist=Yes I'm not sure quite how I got that effect, I just kept messing with it. Course you would still need ringlets, but some style have those. You can pile hr2's on top of each other until something clicks, believe it or not. Emily

Spire ( ) posted Fri, 07 January 2005 at 11:06 PM

Yeah, I know about piling on different hair props, Emily, and depending on which ones you're using, you can get all kinds of cool results, even in mixing and matching textures. I love your rendering, and hate to show my ignorance, but where do I find Maya's free big curly hair? Looks like something I could use! And thanks!

Perhaps it's the "Roll Hair"? Studio Maya has a lot of great free hair. There are several styles that might be good to pile together.

Spire ( ) posted Sat, 08 January 2005 at 2:39 PM

Thanks for the link, but I'm not sure any of the roll hairs would make it without some serious work. I DID play around with the DAZ Pony Tail, following the link to the thread Carolly posted, and I think that's done the trick, at least for now. I don't quite get it using the settings Anton has there, but playing around with it once I had those loaded has given me something that will work until I come across something better. Thanks again to ALL of you for your quick help and guidance with this. If ever I can return the favor, I'll certainly try! Spire out!

Admittedly I got the Roll hair into that position by accident, but it wasn't difficult-- you just push it around actually. I turned it sideways and upsidedown at one point. It made a rather fine narrow mass of piled up curls ala Marie. And it was fun to do. The price is also right-- if you need the color of white powder, others Have inverted black in a paint proggie and added a bit of grey or yellow, depending on how you want it to look. Good luck and I'm sorry the old wigs are no longer available as well since I have Anton's lovely dresses and even for a fairy godmother they come in handy.:)) Emily

We should perhaps nudge, bother, bribe, and beg one of these hair modelers into making a nice stack of curly bits. If we have the proper silhouette, we can add more curls and bows and decorative items to suit the occasion (a Sunday morning levee being not quite as formal as a court appearance). My understanding is that modeling curls and ringlets is tricky, perhaps because of intersections? But some of the hair makers seem to succeed with them. Carolly
