I've seen this before when working with glass and radial lights. I've even asked before, but can't remember if there was a known reason for it, or if it's just a bug. Any ideas?

It's both a bug and just a technical problem. Have you tried turning up the Ray-Depth? I actually think it was a light-gel problem... let me go back and check...

Get rid of the radials and turn the sun back on and it's fine. Weird!

I had the same thing happen when posing several thick walled glass decanters together, I changed the lighting ever so slightly and the next render was ok, but it comes back sometimes for no reson, buggy,buggy,buggy....try a different glass texture, might help, ooooooo, wait a minite, ask FWTempest, he has those packs of glassware, if he's run into this type of thing in his renders.....

It's weird. I've just rereated the scene, with two radials at the same setting and the same glass texture and it's fine.! I have a load of FWTempest's glassware. I'll try with that as well. LSD, I like your idea, but now that I can't reproduce the problem, I'll save that idea for next time.

looks like the soft shadow and glass bug. soft shadows and glass will only render well on premium settings :)

I wonder if that's on the DAZ fix list? I might have to post on the DAZ forum.

I've never seen it.. but then I don't have the patience for Bryce's soft shadows...

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Mon, 10 January 2005 at 9:27 PM

Aye, that's what it was! I remember it happening on my image of the man dead on his desk, and that one had loads of glass... But as the object count increased, I gave up on Soft Shadows in exchange for actually being able to render the thing in less than a year... And the four candles allowed enough interplay of hard shadows that it wasn't too bad...

draculaz ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2005 at 2:36 AM

it's not the texture, it's the light. if the sun is off all bets are off. drac (wise beyond his 22 years)

Or you could use the Zenith sunlight rig by madmax. Hi-res and Studio both give great soft shadows,.........of course at the cost of much higher render times.

Yeah, where is Madmax, these days?

Ahhhhh! Interesting! I must remember that for the future...well, hopefully until Bryce 6 comes out.

GROINGRINDER ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2005 at 12:06 AM

I am glad I have not run into this bug. Somebody put forth a call to the brothels and plead with them to release Madmax to us.

Rayraz ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2005 at 2:33 AM

Madmax, yea I remember him! He made some really cool stuff in here, we learned quite a few little things from that guy. I wonder where he went off to...

Is his homepage still there? I tried a search but couldn't find him. But I can't remember his exact screen name.
