My son just received his Spring 2005 Academic Superstore catalog and guess what was in it? Poser 6. But, it's not actually on their site. Anyone have any more specific details?

SCNR ?

chinchbug ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 4:46 PM

That's damn funny, stewer! I'm saving that one.

mateo_sancarlos ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 4:51 PM

Good - you added the automatic upload button, so we can set Poser on autopilot and have it do gallery renders while we're on vacation. But if the academic ad isn't a hoax, I see they finally realized that it would be a good idea to have some kind of hair that can be easily exported.

Lawndart ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 4:53 PM

Stewer: That's Brilliant! I think there is also an option somewhere that completely creates a unique websight for you and uploads the image to your gallery (that is completely unique as well). Or is that the Pro version?

ynsaen ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 4:54 PM

mateo -- strand based hair is what is presently in P5 -- no change other than actually calling it something more accurate ;)

I just got off the phone with Academic Superstore and they said their catalog people jumped the gun and Poser 6 won't be available until March.

Sarte ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 5:09 PM

Animedoll would come with a "Make Lucrative Anime Series" button.

LOL stewer I just saved that image too :)
Dunno about Poser 6 but I think Curious Labs must fix first all the "bugs" that poser 5 still has :), in second thoughts if Microsoft which is a company 1000 times bigger than Curious Labs are not able to fix all the XP bugs, we can't expecto too much about Poser's bugs :)
Sounds pretty interesting and I'm wondering what must be the new improves that will be added to Poser 6.

mathman ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 6:22 PM

There should be a button on stewer's dialog box entitled "Beautify Judy", but that would probably crash Poser.

operaguy ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 6:31 PM

hysterical stewar. where's the HDRI script button? And is this only avail. on Mac? Those are the OSX lights in the upper left. Are we PC people going to be marginalized AGAIN? ::::: Opera ::::: p.s. mathman, the beautify judy button is in the store of 3Dream and posermatic. og

DCArt ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 6:51 PM

I'd say they jumped the gun ... if that is the "real" box artwork then I'll eat my virtual hat. It looks like nothing more than a badly-cropped photo on a white box. 8-)

Oh my my!!! Nice interface, Stewer! And people -did- ask for it, after all.... And don't tease, ynsaen. Gloat. Rub it in. But don't tease. This is gonna be interesting....particularly if E-on deals with any functionality issues in Poser import...

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 7:30 PM

This is interesting. If Poser 6 is due out in March 2005 (and it's nearly the end of January 2005), that means they intend to ship by the end of March - in two months. I own every version from Poser 4 up for Windows and MacOS. There have been no emails announcing this sent my way! ;) Robert

Well, I have the original Poser version 1 floppies, from Fractal Designs, and then skipped to Poser 4 & Poser 5.

FYI: I would give what Academic Superstore has to say about 0 on the believability scale. These guys will say anything to not look like a putts for screwing up the magazine.

Just look at the real human image that is supposed to be the Poser 6 box. Lame The look on that guys face is probably what they looked like when they figured out they goofed.

Well, I have the original Poser version 1 floppies, from Fractal Designs, and then skipped to Poser 4 & Poser 5. Same here ... except that I have all of the in-between versions as well. And always, without question, we got advance mailings or notice of advance orders. This is clearly an error ... March seems a bit too optimistic to me. Also, if it WERE coming out in March, you can bet that Larry Weinberg would have said that in his interview.

Hi - Katherine here. I'm sorry to offer disappointing news but this ad, including the image is a misprint. Also it was surprising to hear our reseller offering a release date as there is no date set at this time. We will definitely keep you informed on future Poser development. Please check back with us at the Curious Labs site for any product updates. With kind regards, Katherine

Trying to fix Poser 5 at this late date would be like kicking a dead horse, or throwing good money after bad. However, if people thought Poser 5 firefly renders were slow, they're going to have some serious freak-outs when they see how slow IBL renders are. I still believe that adding alot of fancy rendering options to Poser is like heaping Pelion upon Ossa.

chinchbug ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 8:56 PM

Misprint, huh? Katherine, I hope someone over at CL gives Academic Superstore a good schooling. Anyway, it's nice to know you're keeping an eye out on these forums!

Yes.....the whole thing struck me as a bit doubtful.

So the wishlist threads are on again. And valid.

P.S. I want P6 to be absolutely perfect -- and for the program to do everything. Including things that I won't think of until after the software is published.

If P6 isn't completely perfect (as I choose to define perfection), then I will yell about the unfairness of it all in the forums for the next five years, at least.

Bingo, Xeno. While complaints about the creepy circumstances of the Poser 5 release were very legitimate at the time, since the advent of SR4 and the lowering of P5's price, it's currently an amazing proggie and value despite what legacy bugs remain. You can't fault people who bought P5 at release time at full price for feeling burned, but much of the current complaining comes across as either underinformed or just ... I don't know ... pointless negativity addiction? By this time, I think legitimate complaints about P5 have been sufficiently aired, if not over-aired to the extent that sometimes prompts the posting of images of the whipping of deceased equestrian beasts. I trust the current CL gang to have learned from the errors of the P5 release and subsequent loss of faith in the user community. I could be wrong, but maybe it says something about the excess of negativity in this forum that CL is granting interviews to RDNA and Plant-it 3D. That's just a speculation, but Xenophonz' cynicism regarding the nature of the negativity rings true for me. For every "I can't wait" message, there seem to be two that register disdain or demands particular to the complainer's preferred features well in advance of an advertised feature set or any substantial release campaign at all. No matter how stable or cool P6 turns out to be, the complaint department will be doing business as usual. If the app is released prematurely or doesn't work as advertised, by all means, let's talk frankly. Before the release or any actual pre-release campaign, though, I'm with the "innocent until proven guilty" corner. IMO the Shade 7 release was a class act, as is the app itself and its accompanying tutorials and manual. I'd like to believe that portends well for Poser 6. :-) Oh, and yeah ... that was really funny, Stewer. :-)

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 10:50 PM

They're still going to use Content Paradise?! They're listening to us?! Huh? On the subject of price: I've come to accept that if I buy something today, it will soon afterward go on sale. That's the breaks. C'est la vie.

aprilrosanina ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 11:17 PM

"End of March", huh? Like, say, April First? ;)

DCArt ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 11:23 PM

Oooh, good catch! LOL

Farside ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 12:29 AM

In regards to the Content Paradise being included in Poser 6... I'm wondering if since CL has made noise about new characters etc being included that maybe Content Paradise will be a gateway that leads to a new CL content store? Maybe CL has decided if Daz can try to compete with their program, then they can compete with Daz as a direct reseller of content. That's where the money is anyways.

Lawndart ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 1:37 AM

Maybe Curious Labs is leaving Content Paradise in P6 because there will be a lot of new users that buy the program that don't know where to get content. This would be a blessing for some. Maybe DAZ has nothing to do with it. It is amazing how everything turns into a us against them conspiracy theory between Curious Labs and Daz in the forums. Please don't take that personal. I'm not flaming. I find it to be an interesting study in human nature. :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 4:29 AM

I was talking with the guy in the Allume booth at MacWorld (they distribute Poser through their marketing channels). If Poser 6 was around the corner, he'd have been bursting at the seams... with frustration that he didn't have it to demo at the show. We'll undoubtedly be seeing more snippets like the above. I've played quite a bit with Don's face and doubt if anything could get bags under the eyes like that, photo texture or not. However, I do remember that screenshot showing lots of tabs before Poser 5 came out and a couple other sightings which proved to be true. They were mixed in with lots of lame ducks, though. April first? Hmmmm.... Carolly

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 7:20 AM

I'm rattling my head right now, but could swear this same kind of thing happened when we were waiting for Poser 5. Some company came out with an ad before they should have. Ads are planned months ahead of time, in order to meet publishing schedules.

Staby ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 7:28 AM

Maybe they improved the base head geometry and added more control point for the photo line up. I really hope that. The face room was the feature that made me purchase Poser 5 when they announced it and then was very disappointed because I never succeded in creating a 3D clone but only melyed and distorted faces. Using the dials produced some decent characters though... I really hope that it is not a FaceGen face used to tease and not the real output of Poser 6. And maybe the reason Cubed never released more animals is that they are working on the new content?

Bobasaur ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 9:23 AM

I still haven't got P5. I'm still using PPP for the Lightwave compatibility. They were allegedly going to develop that for P5 but it hasn't happened yet. sigh.

Before they made me they broke the mold!

The Greenbriar plug-ins are much better anyway! ;-)

Bobasaur ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 10:32 AM

As far as I can tell, those allow you to import the figures, they may even rig the figures for you, but you have to animate using Lightwave's controls instead of using Poser's dials. That's one of the things I like best about poser - the dials. Oh wait, I just checked again and they have an "Animation Loader". It only works with Single Figure animations but...

Talking about Curious, I got this email from Curious Labs today:

Hi Jim-

On your preview page, you mentioned Poser 6

Unfortunately, we need this taken down ASAP. We need to have no mentions of Poser 6 at all in the public yet.

(I've since taken down the reference, which was actually a typo)

And no, I'm not beta testing, nor have I signed any NDA.

Very curious...

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 11:43 AM

Heh - I report things as I discover 'em... makes life easier that way. No emails here yet, though (but wahey, I'm puny, what're they gonna care?) >:) /P

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 2:17 PM

"No mentions of Poser 6 yet?!" Are they going to hit us in the forums? We've been talking about Poser 6 for months if not years.

Tirjasdyn ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 3:32 PM

ya know I don't blame them. Would post, tease or allow too much blather after what happened last time? I wouldn't. As for the forums, I would discredit these forums to as most of what is said here get construed as: Some says: Maybe they'll include this * Then a few weeks later some one says: I heard they would include this * Then a few weeks later some one says: They are including this * Then at product release: YOU SAID YOU WERE INCLUDING THIS * WHERE IS IT FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD. Then it explodes from there.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 4:15 PM

" ya know I don't blame them. " Me neither... they were just a little too overconfident the last go 'round. It was bad enough that even when DAZ began announcing DAZ|Studio shortly thereafter, DAZ was damned cautious about saying what their proggie will and will not do, then went out of it's way to jump onto any speculation thread and point to the webpage describing features and requirements. /P
