Subject: Help me decide, better software or figures needed for my nudes?

3DNeo ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 7:55 AM · edited Mon, 13 January 2025 at 11:30 AM

I'm having a great deal of trouble working with Poser 5 creating necessary poses for V3/S3 nudes. What I have found is they work great with clothed poses or kneeling, standing type poses. However, sitting and croutching poses is a whole different story. Yes, I've tried Magic Perfect G, which is good, but has the same limitations with the sitting/croutching poses or extreme poses. I have several nudes from gallaries I'm trying to recreate and a few others. It's simply impossible to get the human body right using V3/S3 as figures. So... 1. Are there any other more detailed figures besides Daz ones? Most likely not or we would be using them so... 2. What software and figures would you recommend that I look into if nudes were what you wanted to create? MaxStudio, other? 3. Is there anything else out there that might help in what I need in terms of software/figures like Daz ones but more detailed for other high-end programs? Any other thoughts or advice here? Thanks.

***"3. Is there anything else out there that might help in what I need in terms of software/figures like Daz ones but more detailed for other high-end programs?"*** Well, Turbosquid sells some very unique and high quality models for applications like 3dsmax and Maya, etc. But here's the catch... they're VERY expensive compared to Poser models, they don't often come with any kind of morphs (you have to make your own), and usually they don't come with detailed genetalia (which is what you seem to need). So the biggest problem with buying figures for high end apps is that the stuff available is 4 to 10 times as expensive as Daz products, and they don't have ANY extras. You have to make your own add-ons, etc. Sometimes you even have to "rig" the character from scratch too (IE., add your own bones, joints). In Poser, 90% of the work is done for you when you purchase a character set. If you really are interested in using high end apps though, the best characters I've seen around on the web are usually done in Maya, 3dsMax, or Softimage XSI (commonly in that order). If you check the CGTalk galleries, you'll see what I mean. Good luck!

Sounds like you have been "bitten". The perfect G won't help you with the tough sitting poses (I won't ), but there are a few morphs to be found to assist (I will) you in your posing. Maveris @ RDNA has a free sitting morph.... adp001 Here @ rendo has "unbelievable body" that has some sitting morphs in it.... These will not get you true human bends but will get you closer. After that, there are the magnets. Very effective but labor intensive. If you want more, a modeling prog like Zbrush will let you perfect those tough spots. Unfortunately, at this point the figure will be an object and will no longer be of much use for other renders. Postwork, of course to fix the minor render flaws... There are options like Maya but not everyone wants to create their own figure from the bones on up. It takes months of work. Bang for buck, you cannot beat what you have right now.

richardson: Thanks for letting me know about those items. I really think the biggest issue I have right now isn't the fact I'm not satisified with Poser 5 renders but rather the feeling of incompletness of V3/S3 from Daz. I just don't see how you can have realistic human models if they leave out the genital design. Adding them on after doesn't provide the same results as putting them into the mesh from the ground up. What you end up with is a patch, which doesn't cut it in some pose types. I'll give your suggestions a shot and see what I come up with. I wouldn't mind getting something higher-end if I knew it wouldn't mean spending months to create my own figure. Hopefully, Daz will put genital morphs and maps in their V4, S4 and M4 figures when they update them in the future. You just can't have a realistic model without the whole body. Thanks for the input on this.

Take a look at Seraphira studio's upcoming character. more info on the product showcase forum.

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

Ok, It was about the private parts... On the Daz figures...The hip and the way it's jointed; hip left/right buttock...there is not a whole lot of mesh there and once u bend, well...not much worth fighting for. I've found that a really good texturemap goes a long ways down there. (April 2). The trick is to have the 3 points of texture join properly (most do not bother). This IS difficult, but you can do it yourself in your paint prog. Be careful on what you show here at this site, though. No "inner" beauty allowed, if I recall... As Aeneas pointed out, there are some new figures in the works.

richardson - Thanks for the tips and everyone else as well. No, I won't show anything like that on the site here, I think your right the rules won't allow it. It was mainly for my own use because I wanted to see how realistic a pose could be. It's still amazing to me how much more work could be done to the V3 figure itself for improving, espcially the genitals. Rather or not someone chooses the more "detailed" pose work or not you just can't have a realistic human figure without such details being there in the first place. I think you are correct, as that's what I've found out. There just isn't enough detail in the hip/buttock area and genital area of the V3/S3 figures. That's why I'm getting the distortion I am even with Magic Perfect G add-on for V3/S3. Another guy told me the same thing, as we are both having the same issues. I'll keep my eyes open for the new figures. I really think there's a market for more detailed figures that could give Daz some REAL competition. Heck, I wouldn't mind paying 2-3 times the price of Daz V3/S3 if it was exactly realistic and FULLY posable from all angles. Thanks again everyone for the help, I'll keep everyone posted on how things turn out and what I'm trying.
