THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Old image rework WIP

This was a plant where they make "things". But due to competition, this "thing" plant closed down. Everything was modeled in Bryce except for the plant which are from 3Dplant.com and the railing on the water tower which is Bryce Meshfactory. I used that to try and conserve on file size. It's already at 483 megs. Chainlink fence is a texture adjustment from the cage texture in Bryce. Trying to figure what I am going to use as a ground texture and how much vegetation I'm going to use. C&C welcome.

First problem: Infinite plains are highly unrealistic. The same goes for yellow plastic street lights. Second problem: The water tower texture has some obvious warpage, mapping mode needs to be tweaked. Other than that, this has potential. On vegetationozizing this, I would make it a freakin forest except for this small square with a mysterious construction plant in it. Well, that's my ramblings.

Yep, them trees can cover that horizont line quite nicely, neverending problem which we all trying to overcome... Agree, lot of potential in this one, keep us posted !!! :D

My pete peeve is always scale. If I look just at the fence I'm thinking standard 6 foot fence...this one can't be though based on the size of the plant and the size of the barrells. But then there is what looks like a kind of toll booth or guard entrance shack to the left of the gate which looks like it would fit a twelve foot guy based on an assumption of a twelve foot fence. One or two more "known scale" items would help...people are an obvious route unless you have no access to models...so a truck or recognizable vehicle could work.

BOOMER ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 11:29 PM

No, it's not a 6 footer. More like 10 or 12. The Guard shack needs to be fixed a bit, also. Yeah, the scale is off, but a vehicle or something isn't a bad idea. How about a shipping container? That mgiht just work. I was basically trying to get the elements into the scene. There is still much to be done. The yellow on the lights was so that I could see how it rendered out instead of using the render time for a glass texture. the water tower was made with 2 squashed spheres and a cylinder. Trying to get the texture right on there is a bit of a PITA. There is going to be a background to it. I was thinking of placing it in a canyon or something like that. The texture for the ground is all I was getting at. You know, that "it's been traveled over thousands of times and had crap spilled all over while getting weathered over the years" look. You know, dirt, oil, grease and so on while still having a traveled or less traveled path.

Chemical barrels do come in more than one size.

Nice scene. I've always found something eerily haunting about abandoned industrial spaces. There was a link a while back to something called 99rooms.com or something like it. It was exactly that, set to creepy music.
