THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce Importing Problems

Im having some problems. I spent some time yesterday, downloading various things from various freebies. Skies. Boat Ships Shells Plants Waters 1. Now some of the objects I can import so presumably the rest are Bryce5 and thus useless to me. I managed to get the shells in but not the shell mats how do I use the mats? Or do I need the .jpg image showing all the shells on one page? 2. How do I get the waters in? (Ive tried pointing at the water.mats via the Materials lab via Import no good) Should they be in a particular folder inside Bryce? Or do I use the import Object menu from outside the materials lab? 3. How do I get the skies in? (again, Ive tried from the Skies presets, but they arent there, even when I move the .bsk files into the presets folder in Bryce4 in Programs files.) (Is it Import Object from outside the Skies lab?) 4. The plants want an .mtl file where should it be? I dont think it downloaded when I got the plant itself. The ships were.obp files, does that mean they are Bryce5 and unusable in Bryce4? Help? FranOnTheEdge

Go to the Sky Library and import the Skies... Got to Objects Library to Import OBP files... Photograhic textures import thru the Picture Editor... Now if you are useing Bryce4 and try to import Bryce5 presets it wont work...

-Many people who do Obj models don't include an .mtl file, which makes it a pain when you go to import. The mtl file holds info on how the model should be mapped by the 3D app you're using.

-If you have an .mtl mat already for something else, when it calls for an .mtl, just rename 'any' mtl with the 'exact' name of the model, and then grab it from where ever you saved when it asks you to locate the .mtl.....should work no problems

-Are the shell textures .mat, or jpgs? If mat(preset file) you need to import the preset in materials lab, either into 'installed' or to 'user', if it's a jpg, you need to bring it in through the picture editor, like foleypro states.

And the B5 presets won't work in B4....

An obp is just a Beyce preset, unfortunately you can't tell by looking at it whether it's a B5 or B4 preset....

Do you need screen captures for reference?

Unfortunately, from what you all say, my answer seems to be "forget it". In other words the ones I'm having problems with are probably B5 files.

None of the skies I've downloaded are useable, despite people saying they should be.

I could cry, all those lovely ships by Jed Swindells!!! (sp?)
All out of reach.

I will however try finding ANY .mtl file for those shells, as you suggest - those MIGHT be salvageable.

The .jpg had ALL the shell images on one file, not one shell image per file, so that doesn't help. And the "Shells.mat" file, wasn't useable. Probably B5 again.

Thanks,

FranOnTheEdge

"I could cry, all those lovely ships by Jed Swindells!!!" Those should work if they are in 3ds format...? I think his are 3ds with maps...

Fran, IM Jed and ask if he has the ships in 3DS, the obps are for B5, tell him you have B4, he may be able to give you a B4 obp version....never hurts to ask...=)

Fran if you want to find out if they are Bryce 5 .obp just right click on it and look at properies. If the shells are the ones in the freebies by eelie they are .3ds format and don't have textures with them(Nice looking shells) jedswindells ships are all in .obp for Bryce 5 so if you are using Bryce 4 it is a waste of time trying to import them in to it.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Jed Swindell's ships are .obp - so, B5. Zhann - ask him? Never thought of that. Couldn't hurt. CrazyDawg - the shells had a .mat file that arrived in the zip with the shells - they (the shells) imported into B4 okay but not the .mat file. I've just got Wings 3D, Blender, and Anim8or to play with - actually I had Wings and Anim8or already, I just hadn't got around to playing with them - Wings seems fairly easy to grasp (not so sure about the others) so I'm having fun playing with it - made a spaceship already! Lol So I might have a go making some shells myself... after I get tired with my spaceship, that is - could take a while, I'm having fun with it. FranOnTheEdge
