Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 05 6:41 am)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Subject: How can I keep the same scripts in the Python Scripts box in P4PP?

I'm thinking there must be a simple solution here. I like being able to load my favorite scripts into the Python Scripts box in P4PP for a session. But when I reopen Poser later, the list of scripts goes back to the default set (i.e., Prop Samples, Geom Mods, etc). I tried saving the preferred state with my scripts loaded but they still didn't stay put. Do I have to load my favorite scripts each session?

Thanks! TG

Open the buttons.py in a text editor and edit the paths to your preferred scripts. Best backup a copy first just in case you want to restore the original.

Thanks PhilC! [got thrown a little at first since the buttons.py file didn't have references to filenames or paths, but I found a file named mainbuttons.py which looks like it handles the python scripts button box] cheers... TG

For a bit more detail, look at this picture.... Also consider buying Hogsoft's Python Library Organizer. Not free, but truly works wonders if you're going to use Python often. I don't have the exact link, but it's in hogsoft.com

ockham-- The manual.gif file was a tremendous help. Now I have my seven key scripts all set up in the Python Script box... and it turns out all seven were ockham products! I will also look into the Hogsoft organizer, esp. as my python script library continues to grow. Thanks again!

http://www.hogsoft.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=44 I bought Python Library because I got fed up having to hunt down python scripts when I wanted them now all I have to do is bring up the python script window in poser & there are all of ockham's scripts in one place :D

One great feature of Hogsoft's Organizer is the ability to attach notes to the scripts. I copy the readme's into the notes section.

I'm very glad to hear that someone likes that Notes feature! ;-)

The whole point of the Organizer is to eliminate time-wasting searching. Setting up the notes stops me from having to search for the read-me's for some of those complex Ockham scripts. I have been using Particles2 and MetaForm, plus scores of Ockham's and many other scripts. Hogsoft's Organizer saves me hours every week. It's a great utility.

Great, that was exactly how I expected that feature to be used when I pushed for it. I'm pleased some have seen the advantages of exploiting it.

Hehe... @layingback: You said the script notes would be useful:) Glad you find it useful, y'all! H:))
