Subject: Goldy Tutorial Poser5 Help Required

Jim564 ( ) posted Fri, 28 January 2005 at 12:23 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 2:59 AM

In trying to do the Goldy tutorial, I am stuck on Step 4 (below)

I can find the "Default Guy."
However, there is NO "Change Figure" button displayed in the library until after I load the guy (clothes, body, and all) on top of Goldy which just seems to be a big mess.

I looked in all the pulldown windows, and I tried staring at it for a long time, but neither approach worked. :-)

Anyone have a better suggestion of how to load the skeleton of Default Guy into Goldy?

Thanx - Jim

From the Manual:

EXAMPLE TWO: GOLDY THE ROBOT

(trimmed)

4 Open the Figure library and select Figures>Poser 2 Lo>DefaultGuy.

Click the Change Figure button to load the skeleton.

Thanks for your interest.

I guess I worded my post badly.
Let me try to be clearer.

Before or after selecting Default Guy, there is NO single check mark displayed in the Library window, until I LOAD Default Guy on top of Goldy.

Even if I buy that setup mess, and then select the NOW AVAILABLE single check mark, I can find NO option to load, modify tease out, or display the skeleton.

Hi Jim, When you take an object (with no bones) into the Setup Room and then load a figure from the library (i.e., Change Figure) ... you are actually loading the bone structure of the figure in the library in order to attach (group) it to the figure with which you entered the Setup Room. Ok? Where (exactly) is the tutorial that you are trying to follow? cheers, dr geep ;=]

Remember ... "With Poser, all things are possible, and poseable!"

cheers,

dr geep ... :o]

Chapter 12/Example 2/Page71/Step 4 of the Poser 5 printed manual print or page 84 in PDF. You will find this also quoted in my first post on this subject.

I have since determined to my satisfaction, the single check mark is never displayed until you LOAD something from the library and when you load something, you load it all.

As an experiment, I decided to proceed with what I got. At the end, the only thing I could pose was the default man. Goldy is still without a skeletal control.

At no time, did I see anything that would suggest a skeleton or see an opportunity for skeletal modification. The default man is fully clothed.

Again, thank you for your continued interest.

Jim

...Poser can be plenty frustrating at first ;) Rest assured geep is right, though. Are you both talking about the same thing? Sounds like you might be confusing things in the "pose" room with things in the "set up" room.

...ok. Got that tut in front of me, Jim. Easy thing to miss. From within the setup room click (just to get it highlighted) on "Default Guy". Now that it's highlighted within the library you'll see a little check mark at the bottom of the library. Hover your mouse over it and you'll see "Change Figure".

...hmm. I never did this tut. Might as well finish it, I guess ))

Well, thank you all.

I was confident Geep was right. However, you provided the sledgehammer clarification I needed, and you were also correct.

Although clearly stated, I DID NOT change to the Setup Room from the Pose Room.

In the Setup Room, ONLY the Single check mark is available in the Library.

The skeleton is in place, and I saved the file.

Now, I must tend to the fact the wine, pasta and tomato sauce levels in my blood stream are dropping dangerously low. :-)

Thank you all very much for dropping the proper shoe, the proper number of times.

I used to belong to a Speaker's Bureau. I remember one of the cardinal rules was, "Tell 'em! Tell 'em what you told 'em! Then, tell 'em again!" :-)

Again Much thanx. Obviously, I couldn't have done it without you.
