The light is Bryce's true volumetrics. The glow effects you see come from a combination of KPT6 EQ, KPT5 Noize, and Flaming Pear Aetherize... I suppose I could put him in the shadows, but the point of this scene is also the volumetrics lights, which cast shadows through the bars and off Ben, our slave-boy. If I put him elsewhere, he wouldn't interrupt the lighting and cast cool shadows?
Actually I think the hair looks pretty good :-) To me it's his back that looks a little off. I know that it would arch somewhat because he is in a slumped position, I just wonder if it would protrude that much. Don't get me wrong I really like this pic a lot!!! And I'm certainly no anatomy expert. So take it for what it's worth. I also agree that light is awesome :-)
Aye, I could not find ONE SINGLE MIKEY hair online, so GG, like they say in South Park : It's ON! I wouldn't say I'm an anatomy expert, Hythshade, but from the 3D view in Poser, it seemed convincing enough? Funny thing about the human body is that it never really looks right... Like if you try to draw a hand, and then draw from a REAL hand, the REAL hand always looks fake? Make any sense? GG, modeling hair in Rhino is butter, but I'll most likely despise making the damn texture maps...
LSD: Do you know the Kozaburo hair is at Digital Babes? It wasn't clear from your posts. There's a link on the Web Ring top 15 list on the sidebar.
This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

LSD;
I wanted to tell you that this image is s*ite, but I won't 'cos it's good :-D
I also like the effect of it's lighting.
As for idea's, how about some sort of sybolic model on the floor, which I suppose he could have built from the bones out of boredom?
I dunno, I'm inspirationally challenged.

The volumetric light is superbly done, and the image has great potential. A few suggestions: The shadow pattern from the window bars indicates the light source is just outside; this isn't realistic for an 'infinitely distant' source like the sun. This could be easily corrected in a new render, but a downside to that would be a smaller, less impressive area of illumination in the image (both in the 'air' and on the ground). This throws up a compositional opportunity. Leave the light source where it is and have it not be the sun. Rather than Ben sitting there passively, have him reaching toward the strange light in wonder and hope. This would contrast nicely with the desolation of his surroundings, giving a religious type impression. With that in mind, reassemble the human bones into a skeleton and place that 'in the shadows' (replacing the scatter with general detritus). This would make the bones/skeleton a more obvious statement of a likely doom/destiny for Ben, as well as making it look less like Ben has been feeding on the remains of a cellmate. Enable soft-shadows. The hard-edged ones clash with the lovely soft light in the image, and scream '3D'. Maybe make the bars on the window thinner. The post-worked hair isn't too bad (a bit too contrasty for that part of the image, and a bit too groomed) but the biggest problem is that it doesn't cast a shadow. Ben's back and shoulders are lit as if his head were bald (as in the straight render). If you go for a 'ready' 3D hair rather than making one (or better integration of post), I recommend "Grace Lion Hair" by Quarker in the store here. It's very adaptable, and can be made to look bedraggled and unkempt. It'll be a purchase ($8.95) so you'll feel quite justified in using it in your image(s). It's fairly straightforward to fit to alternative figures, and the process will give you that feeling of involvement you desire ;-). I agree with the others about the back posture error. The butt area of Poser figures is quite tough to get right. It often remains persistently J-Lo when it's bent, and it's a challenge. You like a challenge... ;-)
I think the problem with the hair is that it defies gravity...the curl in it could go behind an ear but I don't see one there...the flow of it looks like it comes from his face, round his head and down the neck...hang some stuff straight down through that curved area and see what it looks like. I agree that the back needs to be convex rather than concave. The hand also looks not quite right. Having said all THAT.... The lighting and texturing are spot on...it will be finishing off the posing that makes or breaks it.

(grins at Everyone!) I guess my ebot lost this one, I had no idea so many people were responding...! All of these are great suggestions. I have been to DigitalBabes, and found nothing remotely Mikey-like. But since I'd already started modeling hair in Rhino, I just stopped looking... I won $10 from a little in-thread contest a few days back, I think I'm gonna go for PJF's idea. (by the way, PJF, it's good to see your name in here these days!) And Alvin, I don't mind at all... I needed help, and thank you for your idea, I agree completely... Only problem with enabling SS on the volume light is that it kills the volumetrics, completely. I DO like the idea of him not moping, but hoping... Can anyone tell I'm feeling isolated and lonely, these days? Thanks for all your support and help and ideas, my friends. Makes me feel good...
