Subject: How do I edit Vicki.cr2 to Millie on Mac?

blablabla ( ) posted Wed, 27 December 2000 at 11:58 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 12:20 AM

I bought the SaludaPackage and have been unable to use it. Used The Mac converter program for the .pcf and .obj. Put all the files in the proper places but they dont show up. The instructions say that Millie is nessisary and to convert a copy of Vicki to Millie and put it with the Vicki.cr2 From the instructions: This is Millie, a version of Zygote's Victoria. The difference is: Millie has exploded the maps for the nipples and lips on a third layer and added a fourth layer for the new material: genitals. This new material was designated using UVMapper and done in a way so as not to bolox the established mapping on everything else. The lips and nipples can have more discrete textures and there is no problem with overlap with the skin surrounding it. The following is for those who are not sure what to do with all this; -The Millie.pcf is an locked version of the OBJ file. You will need Maz's Mover101 to decode it (available at Renderocity amoung other places) as well as the original blMilWom.obj available for specie from Zygote. Follow the directions provided by Maz. -Save the .obj with as RuntimeGeometriesZygotePeopleMillie.obj -You will then need to text edit a copy of the "Victoria" cr2 that you are using. -Use a basic test editor and find the two entries: figureResFile :Runtime:Geometries:ZygotePeople:blMilWom.obj and change them to: figureResFile :Runtime:Geometries:ZygotePeople:Millie.obj Rename your cr2 to Millie.cr2 and park it next to Victoria in the characters section of the Library. ______________________ Unfortunatly I have been unable to open the .cr2 file on my Mac. Can anyone tell me how I can do this? What program to use? (text editors don't do it, nor does ResEdit it seems. Also are their any other Mac issues I should be aware of when using poser files?

The word "BeEdit" comes to mind, but I don't know what it is being that I'm on a PC.

Any kind souls want to convert the file for me? If so, reply to michaelsart@earthlink.net and I will send the file to you. I'm still looking to do it myself if I can open the file up, but just in case... I would hate to think I waisted my money Thanks

JeffH ( ) posted Wed, 27 December 2000 at 3:41 PM

Run it through MacConverter as PC format, zip it up and I'll give it a go. howarths@bellatlantic.net

Jeff BBedit worked perfectly and Millie installed but the only thing I have been able to use from the Saluda Package is the textures. Nothing else shows up in poser. I used MacConverter on the files and MacInstaller to place them. Unfortunatly MacInstaller is almost as confusing as placing the files by hand (I think I set it up wrong) and I had to manualy place the files. I think I am still doing somthing wrong however. I may try re-installing the files without running them through Mac converter as well. (maybe they did not need it?) I may need to start from scratch and check the type and creator of each file as I go. Very fustrating. I've had Poser 4 since it came out but this is the first time I have realy used it much. I just upgraded to a G3, before that poser was too slow to be productive. Now that I can use it I thought it would be nice to beef it up with some high quality models and extras but all I have done since is troubleshoot. Ahhhh! Seems like vodoo at times. Some things work, some don't, and it's hard to find a ryme or reason. At any rate, thanks again for your help. It did get me one big step closer to a solution. I'm off to do more research. Mike

Hello BBB,... :-) Sorry for your problems, but I got an idea what it could be. If it doesn't show in Poser, it almost certainly got the wrong type (again). Depending on your BBEdit settings, it might turn back an edited file to TEXT (which is then refused by Poser), so the best will be to run it through Maconverter again after you edited it with BBEdit. You can tell by the icon - it must have some "Poser looking" icon. As far as Macinstaller goes - I would love to make it (more) easier, but this is a hard job because of the features it has. A bit of a vicious circle - the more customization it gets, the more options have to be set first by (new) users... However, if you just run it without any settings, then it will simply perform the "classic" installations without anything to worry about. Only if you decide to use the advanced options (like using ExtraRuntime or leaving files at their original locations) you have to carefully setup some of the options. Hope that helps, MartinC

Found a PDF on poser file types and how to use them as well. Hopefully, I'll have it all figured out soon. Pretty cool that MartinC pitched in as well. Can't thank you guys enough for helping this rookie out. Mike

One more on BBEdit... it looks like it does not respect the original type/creator settings if you use "Save as" instead of "Save". 1) To open a Poser library file, either drag it onto BBEdit, or select "Open" and set the popup selector to "Any File". 2) If you use "Save" it will stay as a Poser library file. 3) If you use "Save as" it will turn into a BBEdit TEXT file (actually it will turn into whatever you select in the popup, but not a Poser file any longer). In this case your new name must be (...whatever...).cr2 and you must re-run Maconverter over it. Alternatively you can duplicate the .cr2 first, give it a new name, open the copy with BBEdit and then use "Save" - this way you don't need Maconverter again. All file types needed for Poser are handled by Maconverter (this is the first option on top) - as long as the files have valid names (eg. they will work on PC) they will be setup without any need of further manual editing. One more note on Macinstaller - it is just as picky with the file types as Poser... I know that this might be a bit questionable, but otherwise it would install files which wouldn't work afterwards in Poser - so I gave it exactly the same "view" for files that Poser has.

Uhh. Messy. When I meed a mac in future, I think I'll stick to buying them at rainwear shops :-)

MartinC ( ) posted Sat, 30 December 2000 at 3:03 AM

Well... my provider (PC only, by the way!) forces me to call my web pages "something.phtml", and both IE and NN on PC refuse to open them on disk (!!) - because they got the wrong name == type. My Mac opens them without problems, because it knows they are of the correct type. A PC can only open them directly from the http server, because it needs the MIME types, but fails on its own disk system. This means I have to rename all of them (including all internal links) only to try out if they show correctly on PCs as well, and then I have to change it all back before I upload it. If I would create them on a PC, I would need to rename them whenever I saved a change for exactly the same reason. Uhh. Messy. :-) :-) :-)

I know MartinC is right... this is what I do after using BBEdit. BBEdit saves as TEXT file types. This is ok for the .obj format but not cr2 files and other Poser specific file types. When editing a .obj file in BBEdit just hit save when finished. This will save as text type file which is ok for .obj format. When editing a cr2 in BBEdit hit save then open it up in ResEdit and convert the type to cr2T and the creator to PZ3A. That will do it. You can also use BBEdit to strip out the .mtl line that appears when you export Poser .obj files. Apps such as RDS will not open files with these lines in. As always work with duplicates in ResEdit. When you get used to this proces it is very simple. Also just bear in mind using BBEdit and Applescript on a Mac makes Poser scriptable.... Take care flamethedog

Hi Folks! C'mon Anthony, play fair--let's not create an opening for Mac/PC vitriol to enter into this Forum. So far we've all managed to coexist peacefully here. Your choice about which tools and platforms you use are cool if they work for you. But please lay off the disparaging comments about the choice we Mac users have made. Mine works fine, and opens cr2 files in MS Word or SimpleText perfectly--even when it rains. Peter (Dr Zik)

If you want to know/change the type/creator of an application on the Mac, the BEST tool for the job is "More File Info". It conflicts with nothing and works easily, reliably and at ten dollars shareware - well, there's just nothing more to say. You've GOT to have it (and no I didn't write it) :-) It's available at: http://hyperarchive.lcs.mit.edu/HyperArchive/Archive/gui/more-file-info-cmm-22.hqx

Incidently, I've had no problem editing CR2s on my Mac in the dreaded MS Word (Curse you Bill Gates!). Once you save them they are text files, of course, but a trip back through MacConverter fixes that. I often use it on my PC too, it opens and saves even the largest CR2 very quickly, and is very fast for search and replace.
