Subject: Problems with FireFox and Renderosity

kawecki ( ) posted Mon, 24 January 2005 at 10:37 AM ยท edited Mon, 20 January 2025 at 3:08 AM

Since one month I have problems accessing Renderosity with FireFox, there are big delays until some pages appear in the screen, specially Market Place pages, sometimes I have to desist. This don't happen all the times, but is very common. I haven't any problems with FireFox at other sites. With IE6 and Netscape 4.8 the delays are very much shorter. With Netscape I have the great advantage that I can hit the stop button and so the page appears, maybe without some banner or another thing that don't affect the normal reading of the page. I normaly use FireFox and I am tired to have to switch the browser or operating system for accessing Renderosity.

I'm not sure if this could be a problem, but FireFox screens pages for pop-ups, active-x controls, etc. while loading the page. If you're on a dial-up connection, it may be a much longer wait. I have the same issue with FireFox, and I have cable, so it's only a minor inconvenience. I do, however, think it could be a database issue within Renderosity as well, as I have experienced this same problem on other sites that use the same types of databases.

I have DSL, blocked popups with FireFox option and almost no active-x (I removed most of them by hand).

Hi kawecki, What OS are you running under? I use FireFox and IE. I havent experienced the problems that you describe. Maybe some of the hardcore FireFox users will jump in this post soon with some decent suggestions. Clint

I use IE on one computer, and FireFox on my other system (both WinXP), and I've never had any problems with FireFox. Deb

I have FireFox and IE6 with Windows 98 and Netscape 4.80 with Win95. The best perfomance for Renderosity site is with Netscape and Win95 (sometimes there are delays "waiting for ....", but I kill them with the stop button).

The stop button does not work properly in FireFox (a bug????), it stop all and nothing is displayed (blank page) instead of displaying what has been loaded.

I have the impression, but not sure, that the problem are some links outside Renderosity that are not responding or have a big delay, until they respond or timeout nothing appears, such as happens with the free-stuff section.
In someway IE and Netscape handle it in a different way or the timeout settings are different. Many times appears "waiting for matketplace...", but most of the times is "waiting for renderosity..."

I have Firefox 1.0 and Win XP on my main machine, and Win 98 and Firefox on 2 other boxes...no problems with either at all. Kawecki, have you gotten the latest release of Firefox?

Firefox and Win98SE here, and no problems at all. The `stop' button works as intended and just stops the download. I used Firebird before, and that was OK too. Could be a settings problem? m.

No problems running Firefox on my Win Xp and DSL machine. Do you think it could be issues with international lines as well? If I remember correctly from your interview over on R'otica you are not in the US and we are unburying from a Blizzard up here.

No problems with Firefox and XP here either.

The problem is very irregular, in one moment I have rapid access and in another moment have long delays. When it happens, when I hit the link to a new page, nothing happens and I have to wait and wait, once conected it load fast the page. The biggest problem is with the pending products page, it loads the banners and then nothing happens and don't load the pending products. With IE and Netscape is OK. Other problem is when I reply to posts in the forums, I hit "post reply" and nothing, so I must go back, sometimes the reply was posted other times I have to try again and other times I post the reply and in the act is accepted. I have not problems with FireFox at other sites.

No problems with Firefox browser and Windows 2000 Pro SP4. There seems to have been some light server problems over the past couple weeks here and there, no real long delays, but they may have been a part of your problem. *Fairly sure it was server problems, I could bring up any webpage but Renderosity's at the time(s) of the problems. Your problem is probably caused by an over-sized download.rdf file in the Firefox profile. Try deleting this file and see if it helps. You won't lose anything by deleting it other than your download history.

You should be able to prevent this from happening in the future by clearing the download history on a regular basis. If you let your download history grow too large, clearing it from within Firefox won't help, you have to delete the download.rdf file and start fresh. This bug has already been reported on bugzilla. Also, there is a documented memory leak within Firefox, not associated with the download history problem. Over time, the memory used by Firefox can become huge. Minimizing, then maximizing Firefox will free up memory.

Hey, like everything else, it has its bugs :)

I looked for download.rdf and it is only 206 bytes long!, there are other files *.dat that are very much bigger, maybe you are refering to history.dat that is 752 Kb, even it is small.

I have to say I generally only use Firefox and no problems here - faster in fact than IE

A tip to speed up Firefox: 1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries: network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading. 2. Alter the entries as follows: Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. 3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!
