This all started out because of an ongoing conversation with my Younger son, who keeps asking me to make him an image for wallpaper, with a pirate ship in it. Because I am normally useless with sea I kept saying OK and then putting it off. Last time he asked I told him the the pirate ship had sunk, and they took to a raft, which somehow ended up in the river on my latest image.:-). He still keeps bothering me, so finally I had to make an image proving to him that the ship had sunk. This is called "The survivors" Please pull it to bits for me in your usual admirable manner. Wow this is very cool. The only thing that catches my eye is the sun should be at least partially covered by cloud. And the light should be a bit more diffuse (softer shadows, maybe?). If the light isn't coming from the Bryce sun, you could adjust the amount of soft shadow in the light lab until the shadows aren't 100% soft, just a little bit softer. The ocean looks great, the pirates, and the ships, too.

Especially the stormy seawater. Put it in the gallery so I can VOTE for it.

Hi chohole, It's a nice image, but (there's ALWAYS a but..) the 1st thing that occurred to as I viewed it was that the figures seem to be wearing wet-suits: the hands on both of them are pink-ish, whilst the rest of their bodies have a green-ish tint (on my monitor at least). Since they didn't have wet-suits etc. in them days, it stuck out as a anachronism. Of course, it might just be a strange lighting effect... Cheers, Diolma

Is my command...In the gallery much bigger. Diolma, umm they wouldn't exactly be dry, they've just crawled out of the sea. Was trying for the wet T shirt look. THey are both wearing shirts, trousers and boots., honest!

So far, soft shadows (diffuse light due storm), sun disk not so bright, the sand should be darker (i.e.wet). Other than that this is really promising! tweak it some and this puppy has potential IMHO.

Chohole, I really like this and I do see the wet t-shirt look. All I would do to it is add the dripping water as Foleypro suggests and soften the shadows as Tjohn says. I would darken the Sun just ever so slightly. Its great imagery Im sure your boy would love it.

Very nice, yes, water dripping from the sailors would add a toouch of realism.....good job!

It does look like they are wearing wet suits to me. Their hands are a different color than their fore arms. Other than softer shadows and I think this images is great. I have seen the sun look like that several times(two-thirds of my car's roof is glass).

Chohole i can only notice one thing other than what the rest have siad that may need some tender care. the sea is rough because of the storm yet there are no waves running up or breaking on the shore line...now fix all them little things then i might like it :p

OK, I understand your argument re: clothing, but in those days T-shirts hadn't been invented either:-))

Most sailors of that time (especially the "pirate type") usually wore breeches and either went bare-chested or wore a loose fitting top. The reason? They had to be able to climb the ropes and stuff, so needed room to move, and stretch material hadn't been invented yet. Also, the fashions of the day.

(try googling->images "pirate clothing"...)

Also think "Swashbucklers"

Hope I'm not being overly critical: I really am trying to help. Wish I could do as well as you do:-)

Who would have thunk? I just looked it up, Although one source claims t-shirts were invented in 1942, its clear that they didnt come into their own until at least the early half of the 20th century. Nice catch Diolma! The Twentieth Century a chronicle of events & literature A brief history of the T-shirt P.S. Chohole, looks like you might have to reinvent the shirt. That is, unless you think your boy will let you get away with it. Oh...I know, cut it to shreds, no one would be the wiser! ;D

Oh dear, shouldn't try the tongue in cheek bit, can't get away with it with people like Diolma and Quest around. Would you believe I actually studied history for 'O' and 'A' level, not certain of the equivalent elsewhere, and got top grade results. Part of the 'O' level course was the history of fashion. Also for a while I was designing and making historic costumes for our re-enactment society. You may or may not have noticed that I tend to make a lot of historic type images. I do have some nice shirts I could have used on M2, but the limitations of poser meant they were not at all realistic, when wet. Have you ever gone swimming with your clothes on, they tend to slick right down and cling to your body, which poser can't simulate. Well P4 can't anyway, not certain about P5 I suppose I could have postworked the figures a bit to show folds, but what the heck, this image only started out as a joke really, just it turned out better than I expected. BTW my "boy" is 34 now, just that like his Mum he is getting older but refusing to grow up. :-)

Well P4 can't anyway, not certain about P5"; it MIGHT be possible using the cloth room, but I suspect it'd take a lot of work.
