Subject: After a month with Poser

megahurts ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 6:23 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 4:45 AM

I've had Poser5 for nearly a month now, and I thought I'd share my views/experiances with you.

Week one.
This is confusing, what do these dials do? Where's the help? Thats the help? Why does Judy look like road traffic accident? WTF is IK? Lots of links to Renderosity after a google of Poser +help, I'll have to check that out later.

Week two.
This is still confusing, thoses Renderosity tutorials were good, now Judy looks like shes just fallen down the stairs. Who's Vicky? Oooooo free downloads! Ooooo my PC is running like a dog with 3 legs. Where did the weekend go? HDRI? VoulmeraWhat? GI?

Week Three.
Credit card bills suck, I hope Mr Daz3d has fun with my money. Weekends? What weekends? How come my renders look pants*?

Week Four.
My DSL and works T1 has taken a right beating with all the freestuff downloads, finally posted a not-too-pants image to the gallery.

Overall I'm starting to get the hang of Poser, I'm no-where near as talented as 99% of the rest of you, and almost certainly never will be. I've still got some things to figure out (like stopping legs/feet/toes/ poking out of boots for a start) but its making more sense. My weekends still consist of wake up, walk dogs, make coffee, Poser, Renderosity, google, Poser, Poser, coffee, Poser, sleep and the better half is not that impressed.

I've realised that my PC needs to be based around IBMs SuperComputer, and I now want 3DsMax and Vue.

I take my hat off to the rest of you, My daily gallery visits never cease to amaze me with the quality of the work. * Note for non-brits: Pant = Trousers = Slang for not-very-good-at-all-in-fact-its-rubbish.

hehehe - welcome to 'Poser Anonamous' ;) As for the toes and boots thing just select the toes and uncheck the 'visible' box in the object properties window :)

With boots you are usually better to make all the unseen parts invisible.

You poor thing... Worry not, my weekends - probably everybody's else weekends - look alike too :-) (only I feed my hamster instead of walkin dogs ;-) ). My start was almost identical, but I knew about Renderosity before I got my hands on Poser so it was a bit easier. But believe me, you wouldn't like hear me screaming (yup, first contact with Posette and Dork was a big shock). Good luck and welcome among Poseroholics :-)

It took me months of playing with Dork and Posette before I even discovered DAZ and then a few more before I actually started buying their figures. Then P5 came out and it was a whole new learning curve. I think I've gotten the hang of it. But honestly, I still suck with post work...

hehehe yes Poser is very confusing... I have basically the same ritual, although sometimes I confess I burn dinner playing with poser too long. I started using poser only a few months ago. It has gotten harder as I find new things I want to do and learn about... There are always questions like what is this file format do? Right now Im stuck on learning about cr2 and what they do and how to edit, and why to edit. lol But there are some good tutorials out there, but sometimes I wish there were some completely dedicated to some of the questions I have. Those are hard to find. :D but good luck and most of all have fun :D
