That is usually done using morph targets.

dmx_v2000 ( ) posted Fri, 04 February 2005 at 5:40 AM

but the head is just 1 blank (solid) object with no holes. will morph targets help with that?

xantor ( ) posted Fri, 04 February 2005 at 8:24 AM

No you would have to model eyes and a mouth and eyelids first, I thought that the picture was a work in progress.

dmx_v2000 ( ) posted Fri, 04 February 2005 at 9:16 AM

it is. so that means i hav 2 cut out the space 4 said eyes n mouth in truespace 1st, re-import and resort to the morphs.

xantor ( ) posted Fri, 04 February 2005 at 10:03 AM

Yes and you will have to make eyes, too, but that is fairly simple.

dmx_v2000 ( ) posted Fri, 04 February 2005 at 2:15 PM

nah the eyes in this case will b like da ones in dbz. u kno black on white so i can get away with texturing 2 simulate dat. or what do u reccommend

xantor ( ) posted Fri, 04 February 2005 at 2:50 PM

Well, if you make the eyes real objects they will be able to move.

dmx_v2000 ( ) posted Fri, 04 February 2005 at 3:49 PM

yea good point thanx. but i'm new to morphing. u dont mind do u?

xantor ( ) posted Fri, 04 February 2005 at 4:17 PM

You don`t use morphs to make the eyes move.

dmx_v2000 ( ) posted Mon, 07 February 2005 at 3:13 AM

i kno bout dat. so how do i get started? should the eyes/mouth be 'cut' open or do i just use a slit for dat?

xantor ( ) posted Mon, 07 February 2005 at 10:26 AM

The eyes and mouth should be a more rounded hole not just a slit.

dmx_v2000 ( ) posted Tue, 08 February 2005 at 3:19 PM

wot bout teeth n a tongue? how will they fit into the equation?

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 08 February 2005 at 9:07 PM

You would have to make the teeth and tongue too, if you want them for your character.

dmx_v2000 ( ) posted Wed, 09 February 2005 at 7:19 AM

won't making them make morphing more difficult, seeing as how i'll have to go into the 'internal' model to work them. by work them i mean moving the jaw/mouth & the tongue

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 09 February 2005 at 8:32 AM

It will, but you could leave the tongue out if you want.

dmx_v2000 ( ) posted Mon, 14 February 2005 at 8:26 AM

ok. what can u tell me bout backpacks. I want to make a conforming backpack for a seperate model. I'd sooner import the prop and attach it to the chest but i wont b able to make it conform to the bends of the abs. same problem if i parent it to the abs instead.

xantor ( ) posted Mon, 14 February 2005 at 12:48 PM

I would attach a backpack to the chest, if the abdomen bends it affects the chest so the backpack should move, too.

dmx_v2000 ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 9:15 AM

K. I was wondering? how good r u at creating a figure from a single OBJ file. I've tried and it's hopeless. I'd like to send to u if u'd let me. Point me to the TOS if it's gonna cause a problem.

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 7:32 PM

That is a big job, I could have a look at the object but I might not be able to make it a figure. If the first picture you showed is the actual mesh, you wont be able to make it into a figure.

nah it's a different figure altogether. N da 1st pic is a posed figure with clothes, props etc attached. Above is the figure i want u 2 look at, i will remove the pads, holster and pouch on his legs.

Are the clothes part of the figure or seperate objects?

I sent you an instant message about the figure.

The only problem with converting this would be doing the hands (I hope that you used enough polygons for the fingers). It might take a week or maybe longer to do this, I am in the middle of a 3d sara creations project.
