Subject: Inserting props

How can a clothing prop be inserted and conformed to a figure. Some props that I use do place right onto a figure but most others dont - usually the ones that are downloaded. Setting the figure parent doesn't always work so if anyone has an answer to this problem I would be curious as to know what is going on with this problem.

Clothing props don't "conform". Clothing FIGURES do. Which are you using? Props can be "smart props" which means they move to a certain place on the figure when added. To get a smart prop, move it to the location you want, parent it to the body part you want, then add to the props library: you will get a dialog asking if you want it to be a "smart prop".

heyas; most clothing props (or figures, for that matter) are built over the nude models they are made for. the obj files of the models are actually a bit back further than the figure appears in the workspace when you load it. so if you open a shirt prop, say, and it is slightly to the back of your figure, that's what's going on. when you load a prop, you have to position it where you want it, and then parent it to the figure. that's just the way it is, you have to do SOME work. :) the smart props do know where they're supposed to go and usually snap into place. after you get the shirt (or whatever) on the figure and parent it, save it back to the prop library. it should tell you the prop has a parent and ask if you want to save it as a smart prop. say yes. :) (at least, that's how poser 4 works... can't remember if they had smart props in p3. i think they might have.)
