LOL. I was just asking about ambient occlusion in another thread. They must have heard me. ;-)

I just got this e-mail. Looks very promising! I wish they'd reveal the biggest secret - how much is it gonna cost us?

wrpspeed ( ) posted Mon, 14 February 2005 at 9:05 PM

they will say, "show me the money. show me the money" :)

billrobertson42 ( ) posted Mon, 14 February 2005 at 10:27 PM

I replied to the noreply return address asking if p6 would come with documentation that didn't suck. Sorry for the negativity.

zippyozzy ( ) posted Mon, 14 February 2005 at 11:48 PM

Hope it will be in my price range. And, hopefully, P6 will make conforming clothing a lot easier.

R_Hatch ( ) posted Mon, 14 February 2005 at 11:56 PM

OMG, my stupid ISP can let through a good 7-10 actual OBVIOUS spam messages a day, yet CL gets blocked. (Yes, I know it is my ISP without a doubt; I had to get someone to resend info a while back for an item that I had PAID FOR, but never got an email back to activate). And I've been debating whether or not getting broadband would be worth giving up my current email address... Sorry to go OT, but it boils my blood to (almost) miss out on fantastic info like this due to inept spam-blocking software. Thanks for keeping us up to date.

Smoovie ( ) posted Tue, 15 February 2005 at 12:10 AM

As far as price, I have a feeling we are going to need every bit of that coupon they gave away.

Lawndart ( ) posted Tue, 15 February 2005 at 1:48 AM

billrobertson42: I hope we don't see you bitching in a few days when they haven't answered from the "noreply" email. :) All this new lighting stuff is really cool.

Now, this lighting peeks my interest. I couldn't do the fake IBL in P5 due to I have PSP and the scripting and tutorial are for Photo Shop. That's where Shade Standard comes in play, my first taste of IBL. If P6 can come close to that, I would say CL has made one step closer to a sale. I wonder if there is a better integration of lighting from P6 to Shade. Mind the render time should be quite a bit longer. Whats new about Procedural Shading Network? Don't feel bad about not getting the news letter, I'm still not. (shrugs shoulders and rolls eyes)

Byrdie ( ) posted Tue, 15 February 2005 at 12:39 PM

::blinks:: What coupon? And I still didn't get my newsletter. Mail from everywhere else but not CL. Bummer :-(

Jackson ( ) posted Tue, 15 February 2005 at 1:31 PM

"Mind the render time should be quite a bit longer." All the more reason for a brand-new, cutting edge 3d program to have area render capability. As an aside, didn't the guy who answered questions here a while back say there weren't going to be any new features in P6? It looks like they changed their minds. Not necessarily a bad thing if the base program is improved, more stable and -- dare I hope -- faster & smoother.

aeilkema ( ) posted Tue, 15 February 2005 at 3:14 PM

I really do hope not all of the new features are light and render related, but I'm starting to fear a little now...... I never use Poser to render in, only to set up figures. All rendering I do is just for a quick preview. Well, it's not March yet, so hopefully the other new features will excite me too!

As an aside, didn't the guy who answered questions here a while back say there weren't going to be any new features in P6? No, it was just the community grossly exaggerating as usual: Marc: The focus going forward for the next iterations will be improving the usability of the current feature set, instead of the previous focus of adding new features. Community: He said no new features!!!111one

THIERY ( ) posted Tue, 15 February 2005 at 5:43 PM

How many time to render this picture in 1600*1200 ? Half an hour ?..... Let me hope that now, Poser6 is a real 3d software building by an adult team.

No, we are getting it, but don't feel the need to say "I read it, too". ;)

Hi, So glad to see this posted. Thank you Tunsey! Another little bit of insiders detail - be sure to check out the Curious Labs website tomorrow after 12pm PST! ;-) With kind regards, Katherine

hang on Katherine! yells stop her before she leaves the building! can you have a word with the ppl that run your email list? a lot of us are not getting the emails we've signed up for. I am supposed to get them on TWO seperate email adresses. and I've yet to see any. can you ask if there's a problem? both addresses are valid and are checked every 10 minutes...

MachineClaw ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 12:20 AM

email from cl?! hmmmm bought poser 4, PP, Poser 5, and Shade Standard....not getting any emails. Only emails I get are the ones that have discounts to buy more stuff. New lighting might be nice, only works in firefly probably, I'll wait til I see it before I believe any hype been burned once too often. The choir will already buy, preachin with sneak peeks seems silly. Then again I'm posting which is even sillier.

"Have you subscribed via the button in the lower right corner of their main page?" Yes a thousand time, different email addresses, but still no emails. I only had one from that, after that it stopped and that seems to be the case with many people. Guess their email server works just as well as their update service.....

Hi all, On the email issue, I've taken this up with our COO to figure out what's going on. My sincere apologies for this. I'll try to be posting duplicate details to the forums over the next few weeks to make sure and mirror info being emailed out - for all that are not receiving them yet. With kind regards, Katherine

Curious_Labs ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 11:28 AM

Hi - Not my favorite thing to have to ask, but those who are not receiving email from us that have definitely checked the "notify box" when registering with CL --- could you please check your SPAM folder? Then in addition, please IM me on this site with your email address so I can have our IT trouble shoot. Earthlink seems to be one of the companies blocking us right now. Kind regards, Katherine

Khai ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 11:50 AM

checked spam filters.. and you ain't on them :(

Byrdie ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 11:50 AM

Don't got no SPAM folder. I'm using Eudora and my ISP (Sympatico) sends all mail straight to my inbox. So I can't figure out where my newsletter vanished. :-(

Tashar59 ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 5:20 PM

Silly me. I had hoped to have a reason to break down and buy P6. Oh well.

Byrdie ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 6:04 PM

Just been to their site & like what I see. Unfortunately, I didn't see enough -- yet. ::hint hint:: Does anyone have an idea just how long that special offer's (probably)gonna last?

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 6:06 PM

They say "limited edition, while supplies last." Which probably means two or three years. ;-)

Byrdie ( ) posted Wed, 16 February 2005 at 6:24 PM

Ah, then I needn't rush out and sell bodyparts to try and come up with the dough. Good, I haven't got too many marketable ones left anyway.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 6:08 AM

Oh, Byrdie, you probably have some skin left (good for burn victims) and maybe your hair? Even if the appendix is sitting in a jar somewhere, we have a lot of other marketable parts. ;^) My problem is coming up with a first-born grandchild... although a rereading of the fine print doesn't specify that it has to be mine-by-blood. I do want to know more about the Winter Queen. Carolly

Byrdie ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 10:19 AM

LMAO! Me, too. If it's the gal on the box, she's a giant leap from poor old Judy. Wonder who designed/modelled her? Oh, and most important to a good percentage of us, is there an equally gorgeous Winter King?

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 8:56 PM

Now a Winter King might be even better! With a tall Scandinavian crown (like in the Kay Nielsen illos), and some white fur on a cloak patterned with snowflakes? Yum. Especially if he has the long Nordic features!

Byrdie ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 9:04 PM

::drools:: Wonder if I could morph him to look like Lucius Malfoy? Or that Elf Lord, Whasisname? (Not the one with the funky headband.)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 9:22 PM

Attached Link: http://www.geocities.com/figwit_x/

Figwit? (A rather nice-looking young elf at the council who had a fan group develop out of nowhere... ended up with a part in movie #3 and a quote on a game card.) [more info at the link] I think Hugo Weaving did just fine as Elrond. After all, he was thousands of years old, had lost his brother (who chose to become mortal and was the first King of Men), had lost his wife (wounded by orcs and departed to the West), and was watching as everything he had tried to preserve, including all that lore, was withering away. Not a job for a pretty boy! Carolly

Byrdie ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2005 at 9:54 PM ยท edited Thu, 17 February 2005 at 9:56 PM

Nah, not Figwit -- sheesh, what a name for an elf! Well maybe the Hogwarts kind. Message671422.jpg The one that should have been in the scene they gave Arwen, who according to Tolkien wasn't even there. Glorfindel, that's the one.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Fri, 18 February 2005 at 3:19 AM

Figwit isn't really an elfname, more like a use name. Glorfindel should have been there, true. Finding a man who could glow with that much power would be tough (and would have made Aragorn look pretty second-rate). As one of the High Elves who'd been in the West, he'd have almost as much status and power as Galadriel, and would have ranked over Legolas who was only the son of the King of the Wood Elves... an entire group of middle-class elves. I can understand why he was cut. It is harder to understand why the sons of Elrond were cut. Of course, with new lighting goodies, we might have ways to make our elves even more magical without resorting to plugins and postwork. Carolly

::crosses fingers:: Ooh, I hope so. Tho' I'd have to post my vision of "Glori" on the other "R" site! ;-)
