Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
I'm not sure what your meaning is here :) OpenGL is a good thing. I would assume for those video cards that don't support it, there will be a way to turn off OpenGL support (such as there is in Shade) Content Paradise hopefully will be upgraded in functionality. But if not, it has never been a large worry for myself. As for Win98 and ME, that isn't a surprise. Most new software that is graphic intensive doesn't support those operating systems anymore either. Other than that, I think the recommended requirements are pretty easy going. - Noel
I have been a newsletter subscriber since I started in poser and I never got an coupon, off to shoot another email to CL's :)

I'm thinking of making the leap from poserpro to P6 ....But I wish they had more info on P6....It looks like they are just rehashing all the old characters again...The few new P5 characters didn't impress me that was one of the reasons I didn't get it and when it first came out everyone was screaming bloody murder until the updates came out..lol..But this openGL now I'm interested...Does anyone know if the P6 face room will work with the mil characters from Daz...I heard P5 version face room didn't work with these characters...I think that would be even a more turning point for me....
I got the $50 coupon a while back and the $89 email today. I don't need Shade LE. So I'm wondering it I even need Poser 6. I'm curious what new "must have" features 6 has.

OpenGl can be a blessing, but it also can be a curse. If it works, it speeds up screen redraw. If it works depends on many things as each configuration is different. Settings depend on your driver and on the options on your card. Example: Radeons for PC do not have dualplanes (only what has changed redraws. This has nothing to do with dual monitors!). This is reserved to FireGL cards. Smart screen redraw, shared textures, antialiased lines, line polygons etc...sometimes work, and sometimes crash the app. Best is to have newest drivers that are known not to be buggy. Example: objects may disappear and reappear, studio (workspace) may be flickering,... It can be a blessing though.
I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)
I doubt the P6 Face Room will work with the DAZ characters. The Face Room only works with one mesh - the one it was designed for. So for the Face Room to work on the DAZ characters, DAZ and CL would have to work out a deal letting CL include the unimesh models in Poser. Which I suppose they might do, but we haven't heard anything about it.
OpenGL!! That's great!! It's about time CL leapt into the 90's and included hardware support!!! 3DSMax in OpenGl has always been way better than software and I'll bet Poser6 will be the same!!

Ok, for those of us who are "academic users," what is going to be the actual price of P6? And if we were'nt "early adopters" but purchased as soon a we were allowed, is there anything to sweeten the pot? I know I'm being picky, but I'm wondering out loud before our art department starts hounding me for information.
I just pre-ordered and used my $50 coupon. People are pre-ordering already? Did we learn nothing from the mess that was Poser 5? Why not wait 3 months and see if it's available for $99 on Amazon.com? And why would ANYONE pre-order P6 knowing all the issues with P5? Remember that the first version was barely out of beta stage. Plus, CL issued patches almost everyday... and sometimes TWO a day! Now, I'm sure P6 will be great, and if you want to pay to be a tester for CL, that's completely up to you. After all, the early adopter will catch all of the bugs and glitches that the CL testers didn't. Personally, I will be waiting until Service Pack 1 or 2 before purchasing. --John

Did we learn nothing from the mess that was Poser 5?
Nope. Some us weren't around when P5 was new.
P5 was on SR3 by the time I bought it. I bought Shade immediately, and was very happy with my purchase. So CL has a great track record in my book. :-)
Besides, what if it's never $99 at Amazon? What if they're telling the truth about this being a limited edition with cool content you won't be able to get if you don't pre-order? What if the price goes up and the $50 coupon expires?
Not the end of the world, I know, but hey, neither is buying buggy software.
People are pre-ordering already? Did we learn nothing from the mess that was Poser 5? but if nobody orders it then you'll never know if its better, and there wont be any consumer beta testers. If we don't fix it who will? :)

Well, I pre-ordered... I was very lucky not to have any serious problems with P5! Although I'm firmly in the Carrara camp for modeling, I also have v early versions of Cinema4D and Inspire that I use as needed, adding Shade to that tool box is a plus, and the price is right. Naturally there's a gamble that it won't have problems, there ALWAYS is with new software or major upgrades, it's oneof the reasons for "special offers" to pre-order. Alos CL has a pretty good track record for making fixes available in a timely fashion, at least in my book. mike
Hopefully the Open GL won't be a case of 'be careful what you ask for, you may just get it'.
Oh, rest assured, it will be, for someone. Graphics-card compatibility issues, these days, are almost as common as sound-card glitches in the early to mid-'90s. Just look at DAZ|Studio. Over a year since the public launch, and they're still having problems with Intel and ATI chips. It'll probably be worth it, though.

Poser 6 is now on the front page of the CL Web site. Still not available, I think, except for pre-ordering. But I found the system requirements interesting:**
Windows 2000 or XP
500 MHz Pentium class or compatible (700 Mhz or faster recommended)
256 MB system RAM (512 MB or more recommended)
OpenGL enabled graphics card or chipset recommended (recent NVIDIA GeForce and ATI Radeon preferred)
24-bit color display, 1024 x 768 resolution
500 MB free hard disk space
Internet connection required for Content Paradise**
OpenGL is "recommended" now. It didn't used to be. P5 had no video card recommendations at all, except for color and screen resolution.
Win98 and ME are not supported any more.
And Content Paradise is back....
