Ok I know this has been posted before. Is there a easy method of importing a obj file into poser 5 with out a lot of problems such as using uvmapper and scaler. Something on the order of a straight shot without having poser mess up the polygons, textures etc?

What I did was make a vrml file of a house. This is what it should look like.

Now I imported it in to 3d studio max 7 and exported it out in obj format and imported it into poser 5 with smoothing off. Of course poser still goofs things up. All the import setting were unchecked cept for scale 100%.

Next I ran the obj thru uvmapper classic. Load model house.obj, edit>select by>vertex, edit>split>vertex, edit>new uvmap> box (the best looking map), save file house1.obj. With export normals, export uv coordinates, export materials, and export uvmap checked. I them imported house1.obj into poser same import options, and then applied the texture for the outside of the house ie the siding and the roof textures to the model and rendered it. This is what I get. I'm at wits end.

When you import an obj file into poser the texture maps are expected to be in the same folder as the obj file. If they are not Poser will display a message and allow you to enter the correct folder. Simple colors are imported directly from the mtl file. Poser tends to screw things up by triangulating the model. Display in wire frame to check if this is happening. I import using the keep groups options selected and no scaling. I also use center and drop to floor options.

Hmmm ok. I'll try it and see what happens. I kept all the files in one folder. I found a old copy of nugraf, and put the vrml file thru it's obj exporter. came out great in rendering in that, bryce, and max. As for poser.... um it sucks. I hope to god poser 6 has it's import/rendering probs fixed. I just shelled out close to 300.00 for a pre-order.

If it renders ok in bryce you should be able to get a decent render in poser but you have to play with lighting and render options.

Sounds good. I switched to the poser 4 rendering engine and the textures come out great. Still a prob in places on the model with the mesh. Ie you can notice where the 2 floors join with each other, sort of a crease. I also have the same problem where the edge of the little storage shed on the far right side of the model, a crease runs up the wall. I was messing around with the import settings for vrml and the export settings for obj format in nugraf. I'm slowly getting there. Sooner or later I'll hit the right combination of setings. Of course given murphy's law I'll get it to render perfect in poser and then everything else in bryce, etc will not work. lol.

Have you tried decreasing the Pixel Shading Rate ? The texture looks like it has some fine detail, which can get washed out if you don't set the shading rate small enough.

Well I got stuff to work. A bit of tweeking here and there in lighting, antialising etc, between nugraf and poser, etc
nothing like staying up all night. Good thing I'm on vacation. Now to see if there is a vrml import plug in for poser using pthyon.
