Welcome to the Poser Technical Forum.
Where computer nerds can Pull out their slide rules and not get laughed at. Pocket protectors are not required. ;-)
This is the place you come to ask questions and share new ideas about using the internal file structure of Poser to push the program past it's normal limits.
New users are encouraged to read the FAQ sections here and on the Poser forum before asking questions.
When you import an obj file into poser the texture maps are expected to be in the same folder as the obj file. If they are not Poser will display a message and allow you to enter the correct folder. Simple colors are imported directly from the mtl file. Poser tends to screw things up by triangulating the model. Display in wire frame to check if this is happening. I import using the keep groups options selected and no scaling. I also use center and drop to floor options.
Hmmm ok. I'll try it and see what happens. I kept all the files in one folder. I found a old copy of nugraf, and put the vrml file thru it's obj exporter. came out great in rendering in that, bryce, and max. As for poser.... um it sucks. I hope to god poser 6 has it's import/rendering probs fixed. I just shelled out close to 300.00 for a pre-order.

Sounds good. I switched to the poser 4 rendering engine and the textures come out great. Still a prob in places on the model with the mesh. Ie you can notice where the 2 floors join with each other, sort of a crease. I also have the same problem where the edge of the little storage shed on the far right side of the model, a crease runs up the wall. I was messing around with the import settings for vrml and the export settings for obj format in nugraf. I'm slowly getting there. Sooner or later I'll hit the right combination of setings. Of course given murphy's law I'll get it to render perfect in poser and then everything else in bryce, etc will not work. lol.

What I did was make a vrml file of a house. This is what it should look like.
