THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: OT - My beautiful sunny state of CA is rebelling against me!

MoonGoat ( ) posted Mon, 21 February 2005 at 3:47 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 9:29 PM

Severe rain and thunderstorms for the last 2 weeks, the third gigantic storm like this in 4 months! Mudslides are destroying trailer parks throughout my entire county. There is a freakin waterfall in my backyard! When will it end??? I'll try and post a pic of the waterfall soon. MoonGoat (Considering moving to England)

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 21 February 2005 at 3:57 PM

is it at least a nice waterfall? drac

MoonGoat ( ) posted Mon, 21 February 2005 at 4:00 PM

Well, it pours off of a 15-foot ledge into my neighbor's driveway thus giving my house a lovely little moat, so I think I can live with it.

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 21 February 2005 at 4:11 PM

as long as it's in your neighbour's driveway ;D

And it's snowing pretty hard here. It'll be nice to drive around in the morning, without anybody on the road. :D

England these days is worse for it's wind (hoping that doesn't sound too rude LOL) We had high winds and gales throughout Jan and early Feb - and I had many sleepless nights!!

Haha! It's 80 degrees and sunny here in Waco, TX. That waterfall sounds awesome!

Why is it that every time I leave a place it falls apart? I left California back in 83 and since then nothing but earthquakes, floods, mudslides.... I left Mexico City just before that big killer quake they had about 20 years ago. I left Misourri not long before those floods they had... The day I left Kansas there was a real big twister... I think I'll stay in PA forever, I hate to think what might happen if I leave...

Well, it's better than the fires southern california had last year--then my university closed for a week due to thick smoke and a rain of ash! Or maybe that makes it worse, I still have classes to attend, despite the pouring rain..... But why is all the snow in Erlik's picture yellow....?!

Don't even get me started on the ash rain. A burning piece of brush embers blew right into my forehead on the day I had to attend a bar mitsva. The whole party was out doors and I was constantly assailed with burning flakes of thorny brush. I was 4 years old in the big 1994 quake that levelled a few shopping malls. I remember all the water and gas pipes being thrown up through the middle of the street and seeing water and burning gas mix in the road like some horrible experiment in the DTE. There haven't been any real floods near me. CA can be a dangerous place. Mostly because the rest of the country is pre-occupied with the notion that all Californians do is just surf all day. oh gee you lucky things. what i would do for some snow or rain here. try working down at 150 feet below the surface when the temp is up above 40C, you have sweat running of you like water and dirt mixed in with it. its just like having a mudslide on your face :)

The world is a bit topsy-turvy right now Moongoat. The Pacific Northwest is experiencing an extremely early Spring(positively California-type weather) and I've had to mow my lawn FOUR times this Winter so far! It used to be that I'd mow the lawn in late Fall and it'd go dormant 'til I mowed it again in Early Spring. Now I do believe the Good people of California have stolen our weather, and we want it back! It's unnatural to be wearing a short-sleeved shirt and shorts while walking or puttering in the garden since mid January, at least in this part of the Country! Besides, our precipitation count is way lower than normal and we may actually be facing a drought. Good luck man, now you know what we usually go through up here, lol. I suggest we dub this month "Freaky February".

the pic is yellow because it was shot five minutes earlier - midnight, long exposition, sodium light bouncing all around.

You know..what with snow in Dubai, grass in antartica, and even here..the temp is 4 degrees below the normal due to snow in kashmir (140 pple died) and just a few hours ago.. Iran had an earthquake....and all that is happening to you folks.... ever wonder if..if....things might be just a way too topsy turvy?

Well I don't know about where MoonGoat is, but we've got sunshine again here in San Diego. Some of the roads turned into temporary rivers and some Eucalyptus trees fell down, but no end of the world quite yet! *knock on wood* The link is to the Scripps Institute pier webcam, so you can see the sunshine (and surfers!) right now, but if it's all dark that just means you're looking at it when it's night here and you can just barely make out the lights of downtown La Jolla.
