Subject: ****** Summary of Poser 6 Special Edition Pre-Order Questions******

tesign ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 7:22 AM

Btw Katherine.just a question for interest. Why are the charges in Euros?...since Poser 6 is a US base product. What about those buying from Asia? I have been paying in US from Asia all the while depending on where the product comes from. Bill

Katherine, Will there be a refund policy for people who preorder P6 and are dissatisfied with the product on release? Has CL finished coding? Has CL finished beta testing for those modules/features that have been announced? Will there be any new content in the way of new figures? These questions are a great concern to me since I preordered P5, and went through the whole P5 fiasco. There was no refunds with P5. It was released with known problems, some of which were never fixed. Promised content was never provided. We've seen a couple of screen shots of the product interface, and a few minor details on new features, but no examples of renders. There's also been no render time comparisons or even if the new Winter Queen package box image is using new content. You're offering a very good deal for P6 right now, but as someone who still feels cheated on P5, there's too little information for me to make a purchase comfortably. It may wind up being the best product since toast with jam, but nothing I've seen so far has suggested that it's worth the risk of another P5 experience. There's a good chance I'm missing out on a great deal, but I went hungry to purchase P5 on pre-release, and I won't miss any meals for P6 unless more information is provided.

We've seen no full-figure renders, but I think the mannequin and hand-holding-the-6 were P6 renders, since they called out new features in the images.

I may stand corrected on the P6 render. However, I'd prefer to see a P6 render without any postwork.

Call me a sucker for the next big thing. I'm excited about Poser 6, and impressed by Curious Labs & Katherine's assistance in this matter.

Katherine has been very helpful with order information and problems, and extremely polite. Curious Labs is now owned by a new parent company and deserves a honest look at their product when they finally release details and test results. I too, am excited about P6. From the little we've heard, it looks to be a great improvement over P5. P5 is a great improvement over P4 - now. However, until we see more, and know the return policy, I think it's foolish to pre-order a product that we don't know is finished coding or testing from the same people who sold us P5. I'd be a lot less leary if there was no Pre-Release sale. CL did the last one to show that they had guarenteed income in order to help their financial situation. I keep remembering the excitement we all felt with the P5 pre-release, and the months dragging into years of problems, public beta tests, and unfulfilled commitements. I remember the price cut less than a month after the initial release. The public airing of CL's finances and corportate shake up. I'm getting sense of deja vue that really worries me. Most of my income is Poser based. I'm afraid one more P5 debacle could kill the product completely. If the product is this close to shipping, then CL should be releasing a lot more informaton. A few screen shots, a couple of postworked images, and few descriptions of improvements aren't enough to risk a dime on something that is still vaporwear. Right now CL should be trying to re-earn the trust we had in the company before P5, instead they've launched a marketing campaign with d*mn little details.

"Base it on the Price in USD as they are a US company." I wasn't given the option of US$ - soon as my Country was entered - I was only given the option of euro or pound. Not that I think it is costing me much more given the current exchange rate with the $US and really the only way to know the "Real" Cost is after the amount has been debited from the creit card - anything could and most likely will happen with exchange rates between now and then. My only "real" complaint is with the shipping costs but again not much in the way of options there - unless I want to download it.....

If Cl doesn't release any news or images, people will feel frustrated at the ambiguity. If CL releases lots of information, people will scream about hype. They are walking a narrow line. Some of the old-timers might remember the "Hair" easter egg from Poser 3 and Poser 4. It was a planned feature which technically couldn't quite be made to work by release, and was simply left in and undocumented. I suspect that CL is probably only mentioning features which are either tested or they are pretty sure will pass testing. There may be others which we don't know about yet, and which they don't want to mention... lest some people on this board take it to be an iron-clad promise and spend the next 3 years complaining about it (not you Jim, but there are some who have been rather vocal). Better too little information and pleasantly surprised customers! Carolly

Katherine, I would love to know one thing and one thing only, will Poser 6 allow us to use the figures from P5? I have been user of Poser since it's inception and have accumillated figures and clothing worth more than the programs itself. To all the nay sayers who whine about the P5 fiasco, please tell me one major production software title that has performed flawlessly right out of the box. Windows 95-XP? 3D Studio Max? Corel? Adobe? Hmmm I think not. People need to get real and understand that no matter what is coded, there will be patched, fixes and updates. There are just too many bits and pieces to your computer to guarentee that all will go smoothly. Just be happy that the Poser line wasn't dropped and forgotten about. Oh by the way, I am a die hard poser and bought the full version versus the upgrade, I hate having to install a previous edition then install the latest when I build a new system.

who3d ( ) posted Mon, 21 February 2005 at 4:48 PM

"I hate having to install a previous edition then install the latest when I build a new system. " Well, with Poser 5 upgrade you don't have to install Poser 4 beforehand IIRC :) You have to HAVE it, but it doesn't have to be installed. Cheers, Cliff

Reading back over the thread, its a bit disconcerting to see so many negative comments so far on this issue of we havent been told enough. Its not as though CL is holding a gun to anyones head and making them pre-order, they have already stated that upgrade prices will remain the same after release the only thing that those of us who have pre-ordered are getting is the special box and content and of course the chance to play with it sooner.:) Everyone else is free to wait for Poser 6s release and then get feedback from those who did pre-order on whether they should go ahead and upgrade

Not totally true. "Early Adopters" are getting a greater discount, limited-time only on pre-orders. So waiting means paying more.

"Well, with Poser 5 upgrade you don't have to install Poser 4 beforehand IIRC :) You have to HAVE it, but it doesn't have to be installed." I don't think I've come across an "Update" version of anything that I had to install the old version first - Even Windows only checks to make sure you a previous version by inserting the CD "Not totally true. "Early Adopters" are getting a greater discount, limited-time only on pre-orders. So waiting means paying more." Point taken for early adopters - although I would have thought early adopters would be willing to adopt Poser 6 anyway regardless of what has or hasn't been said. As for others upgrading - from an earlier post:- "For upgrade pricing, the $129 US / 119 Euro / 82 Pounds price will remain the same those purchasing upgrades during the Poser 6 Special Edition promotion, will receive the Poser 6 Special Edition. Those who choose to wait until after the Special Edition runs out, will receive the same pricing options for upgrades."

I am early Poser adopter and would buy Poser in every version. :) Poser is a good investment and useful proggy for hobby or business use. I never get tired of playing with Poser. Offer for early adopter is always rewarding and honest price. I never mind to contribute my money to CL for Poser is it because they deserved it and I want them to keep developing to implement new features in Poser. So please guys quit complaining about the price or special offer.

" Reading back over the thread, its a bit disconcerting to see so many negative comments so far on this issue of we havent been told enough." I've to agreed what is said here. Either you game on taking it up now or wait. As for myself, I know I will get Poser6 sooner or later. With the xtras offering from CL now for a limited time, why not take advantage of it. Bugs or no bugs, sooner or later, the program would get better anyway and moreover, I don't think CL has ever charge for bug fixes or incremental updates. CL has been very fair by my opinion. Bill

Just wondering if anyone else from Australia or outside the US has had the problem of only being able to order in Euro or English Pound? I am currently following up on it and awaiting a reply from either DR or CL. I have to recant an earlier statement I made regarding not saving a lot with exchange rates. A quick calculation shows that I would have saved about $34 AUD before shipping had I been able to order in $US Dollars but soon as I entered "Australia" I was redirected to the "Global Store" which only had the Euro or English Pound Options.....

Tastiger...Katherine did mention that those who had problem ordering to IM her : Item 67 here >> " Those who need to offer contact details in regards to the Special Upgrade offer of $89, please IM me the following: Name Physical Mailing Address Email What Product or Products you use from Curious Labs and in the 3DCG arena." I had a respond in less than six hours from Kath and the next day, I received an @mail news for a further 15%, supposing from DR. Good luck.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Tue, 22 February 2005 at 6:02 AM

I placed my order, (thanks to Kathrine for her help), and I recieved my Invoice. Does this mean I got my order for the 'boxed set Special Edition' in time? CL mention limited quantities of the boxed sets.

tesign ( ) posted Tue, 22 February 2005 at 6:25 AM

"..received my invoice"?..I did not though. Does anyone else received an invoice too?

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Tue, 22 February 2005 at 7:51 AM

I haven't even received a response yet. Received all of the CL emails though. Sent the "Special Upgrade offer for $89" IM and another with full information. Nothing yet. Now, I realize that the weekend just ended and yesterday was a US holiday, so another day will not hurt (or will it?). :)

I think they are selling full version of Poser 6 SE to everyone especially to previous owners who purchase upgrade deal.
